The 'Douma Four' - the four prominent civil rights activists abducted in Douma in 2013 - made headlines again yesterday (Wednesday January 1), when supporters held a demonstration to demand justice and accountability for them in front of the Violation Documentation Center where they were abducted from on the night of December 9, 2013, by members of the so-called 'Army of Islam'.
The four abductees—Razan Zeitouneh, Wael Hamada, Samira Khalil and Nazem Hammadi—were prominent figures in the early peaceful opposition movement during the Syrian Revolution; Zaitouneh, a human rights lawyer and civil society activist, had set up the VDC in June 2011 with Mazen Darwish, a fellow Syrian lawyer and free speech advocate.
Samira Khalil's husband, the prominent Syrian writer and thinker Yassin al-Haj Saleh, participated in the demonstration, saying “We are here because we want to know the whole truth about two women and two men who were disappeared from this place 11 years and 22 days ago."
“We are gathering here to remind the world of their case,” he added. “This is the first opportunity that allows us to be in Douma and in front of the place that they were kidnapped from, to speak up about the case, taking advantage of the political change that took place in the country.”
The protesters explained that they are working to "bring the case the Syrian judiciary regarding this crime” by following the judicial route and using political and civil pressure tools.

From the cold night of tyranny to the warm day of freedom.
People entering Syria used to be greeted by surly intimidating goons from the deposed Assad regime's notorious Fourth Division, who'd demand bribes and 'fees', and treat people with obnoxious arrogance. For any Syrian refugees returning (or being forcibly returned by Assad-allied authorities) in the past decade, this was doubly fearful since they were terrified of being arrested at the border and 'disappeared' into the regime's prisons for their dissent.
Now, Syrians at the Lebanese border are celebrating their new free nation, welcoming people crossing into or returning to Syria with genuine joy, warmth and friendliness, even handing out sweets and welcoming messages,

A few months ago, Assad regime forces arrested an activist who was cooperating with the UN Human Rights Council (OHCHR) and receiving foreign funding. It was later proven that an OHCHR employee had intentionally leaked information on the woman’s activities to the regime to have her arrested out of jealousy. After the detainee was released under pressure from local tribal dignitaries, the report betraying her was exposed, with the commission sending a letter to Syrian organizations denying the news.
This recorded call with OHCHR official Rasha Al-Qaisi confirmed, however, that the report was true, confirming that the incident took place and the official in question was involved.
This provides further confirmation that the OHCHR deliberately misled local human rights organizations at the time in order to deceive them and protect its own employees without any regard for the lives of activists in regime-controlled areas. The fact that it covered up for the employee who leaked the data and failed to hold her accountable, despite claiming that an investigation had taken place, while denying the arrested activist’s testimony, shows that its sole concern was to protect the UN office and its staff while disregarding the safety and wellbeing of Syrian citizens.
This news comes as no surprise to Syrians and supporters of the revolution, who have grown disillusioned after watching UN organizations and officials working closely with the Assad regime and its allies since 2011, from providing Assad with a string of envoys to handing the geolocation coordinates of hospitals in liberated areas to Assad’s and Russia’s air forces to enable their bombing, which resulted in medical organizations refusing to provide details to the UN. In Lebanon, many Syrian dissidents were handed over to the regime after registering their refugee status with the UN. Such instances are not unusual. There have been numerous calls for a total restructuring of the UN to avoid such shameful

This footage shows a protest today by family members of some of the detainees 'disappeared' by the Assad regime in Al-Hijaz Square, Damascus, with Wafa Ali Mustafa, whose father is among the missing, acting as spokesperson; she explains that the protesters and thousands of others are demanding that the fate of their loved ones be revealed, that those responsible for their imprisonment, torture and 'disappearance' be held accountable and brought to justice, and that all those whose hands are stained with detainees' blood be prosecuted.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights has reported that over 112,000 of the detainees classified as 'disappeared by the regime are still missing.

Assad's admirers, many of them Western, continue commenting daily, as they've done for 13 years to date, to remind everyone that free Syrians have not fought Israel and are therefore, undeserving of their selective solidarity.
Many of these stalwart supporters of some Palestinians' freedom (depending on the Palestinians' location and their oppressors' identity) insist, as they have for 13 years, that everyone opposing Assad - including his numerous Palestinian victims - must be zionists, and accuse all pro-freedom, revolutionary journalists and media outlets, including Radio Free Syria, and all revolutionaries and revolution supporters worldwide, of being part of an anti-resistance CIA-Mossad/hasbara operation.
Clearly, by congratulating Syrians on attaining freedom and linking this with Palestinian freedom, Khaled Meshaal of Hamas shows that the group must be part of this Fiendish Conspiracy.
Hopefully all will be revealed shortly by Assadists' favoured 'geopolitical analyst' Maram Susli ('Syrian Girl'), who explained previously that the Arab Spring was a Muslim Brotherhood plot, while events in Syria are part of a conspiracy involving zionists, the Illuminati, the CIA, ISIS, MI5, MI6, Al Qaeda, the Freemasons, Wahhabis, and the Catholic church, with the Assads' resistance credentials apparently proved (according to Maram Susli) by the lack of any McDonalds outlets in Syria under the regime's rule.
It's all far too complicated for us anyway, but then we're not 'geopolitical analysts'.

Locals in the predominantly Alawite village of Basnada in Latakia caught three Iranian regime-affiliated individuals last night (December 25) after they kidnapped a Syrian citizen from a predominantly Sunni village. The kidnappers were planning to kill the man inside the Alawite village to stir sectarian tensions among villages along the Syrian coast.
One of the three men captured refused to unlock his phone, while the other two claimed they didn’t have phones. Later, after confessing that they were saboteurs working to incite sectarian conflict, they were handed over to security forces. The kidnapped man was freed, and his phone, ID, and car were returned to him unharmed.
This video was live-streamed on Ali Omran’s page.
Assad, his accomplices in Tehran and Moscow, and their supporters keep forgetting that Syrians have grown expert in recognizing their dirty tricks and strategies to divide the people against each other for a long time, especially over the past 13 years.

Following clashes with predominantly Alawite former regime forces who launched apparently coordinated assaults on security forces in the Syrian cities of Latakia, Jabal, Tartus and Homs today, the Military Operations management authority has declared curfews across Syria.
Security forces are now patrolling the streets of several cities following the clashes.
Transitional goverment authorities have warned that they will "strike with an iron fist against anyone attempting to destabilize Syria or create chaos."
In Homs, regime loyalists organised protests, claiming falsely that forces representing the transitional govenment had destroyed an Alawite shrine in Aleppo in an effort to incite sectarian division, despite senior Alawite figures having confirmed that the shrine was destroyed by regime forces before their withdrawal from the city.
In related news, Professor Shahram Kholdi, a lecturer in Middle Eastern Studies specializing in Iran, told the Iran International channel in an interview this morning that Iran's regime is determined to undermine the transitional government in Syria.
Professor Kholdi told the interviewer that he believes the Iranian regime, angered at being thwarted in Syria, will attempt to assassinate Ahmed al-Sharaa, and will organize other assassinations and attacks to create chaos and discord in society, and organize loyalists in an effort to overthrow the transitional government.
