In the early hours of March 26, 2024, the Francis Scott Key Bridge, a vital link around Baltimore, faced an unprecedented disaster. Struck by the MV Dali, this architectural marvel succumbed to a tragic collapse, as captured by National Transportation Safety Board drone footage.

As a data enthusiast, we took on the challenge of delving deeper into this catastrophe. Using the drone video, we created a Gaussian Splat analysis to map the impact and dispersion of the collapse. This technique allowed us to visualize the chaotic aftermath in a new light, offering insights into the force distribution and potential structural vulnerabilities of the bridge.

This analysis isn’t just about data. It’s a step towards understanding such tragedies, aiding future engineering efforts for safer structures. It’s a fusion of technology and empathy, where numbers and figures help us learn from the past.
