Running sheets spread out on the kitchen table for a final colour check of our new book about naturalistic planting with shrubs. Shrouded in Light by Kevin Williams and Michael Guidi releases March (UK) and May (USA) 2024. I’m so excited for this book which looks beyond neatly clipped blobs and mounds and examines the potential of wild shrublands to introduce an altogether different note to our gardens.

“Providing insight into the world of academic articles without having to dive into the vast, often inaccessible pool of studies is this book’s big advantage and I hope it will spread the message about the plethora of benefits trees provide to gardeners.” Dr Elisabeth Larsen in RHS The Garden magazine

“The book draws together into one volume all the elements of the various tree-themed books that we designers usually turn to for identification, research, fact, and design.” Marcus Foster in Garden Design Journal

TALK - RACHEL SIEGFRIED THE CUT FLOWER SOURCEBOOK
4th April 7-8 pm
at The Garden Museum

Early booking is recommended to hear Rachel Siegfried and Clare Foster in conversation to celebrate the launch of Rachel's new book The Cut Flower Sourcebook.
Growing your own flowers for cutting brings the pleasures of the season indoors and cuts out the air miles associated with many shop-bought flowers. Founder of Green and Gorgeous, a flower farm and floral design studio in Oxfordshire, Rachel Siegfried is joined in conversation by House & Garden editor Clare Foster to turn the spotlight on the best perennials and woody plants for cutting and arranging. These hero plants return year after year with little effort or waste, offer valuable habitats to garden wildlife and bring a natural quality to arrangements.

« … an ecological garden that works on the imagination. »

Just some of the comments we’ve appreciated receiving since publication of The View from Federal Twist, the book that provokes us all into asking questions about our relationship with our gardens and landscape.

🎉🎉🎉🎉 Happy UK publication day for The Crevice Garden and huge congratulations to authors and crevice crusaders Kenton Seth and Paul Spriggs. This book is generating a lot of excitement in the rock gardening world: “I honestly can’t remember a book I’ve been more excited to see published!” says Joseph Tychonievich, Ed of the North American Rock Garden Society journal and “an attractive, well laid out illustrated book that inspires, guides and educates the reader… I recommend this book. ” says Ian Young of the Scottish Rock Garden Club.

And it’s not just for rock gardeners - crevice gardens offer a unique habitat for wildlife especially sunbathers and burrowers, a plant-rich alternative to retaining walls, a reuse opportunity for waste concrete and a safe place to conserve rare plants.

We have a few review copies left so DM me if you would like to cover it.

“I knew it was a horrible place for a garden,” Mr. Golden recalled. “But I also knew I would make a garden here.” Reason never to be discouraged where gardens are concerned, Federal Twist sits on heavy clay that describes as like ‘wet plastic’.
