Water Security & How to 'Ignite Your Story'
"Find something that you're really passionate about, something that matters to you. In my case, it was water, because I grew up in an area that was water scarce. There are so many interesting topics both in the water realm and in the Middle East realm, but for me the idea of how water can be used to bridge divides, that was really, really fascinating. So the advice I would give is: Look around you, think about what has impacted your life"
Join us for our final episode of Season 5, where Muna Gasim speaks to Kathleen Schwind about Water Security in the Middle East and Kathleen offers some expert advice on finding your Human Rights passion.
We're thrilled to end the season with such an inspiring and insightful conversation, and would like to thank everyone who listened to, and supported declarations this year! It's been a pleasure to use this season to highlight some of the most pressing Human Rights issues in the world today, and to interview some truly inspiring activists working to improve Human Rights all over the world.

Counter Terrorism & Human Rights
💥 COUNTER-TERRORISM AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN CONVERSATION WITH TOM PARKER is available now 💥
" Human Rights matter and they matter for a whole host of reasons. They're not just liberal values, they are profoundly essential human values. And, we can't allow them to be eroded. We talk a lot in the counterterrorism world about resiliency and when we talk about resiliency, we're nearly always talking about hardening buildings, structures, and infrastructure, power stations, roads, bridges, transport modes... but we don't spend a lot time talking about the resiliency of values. And I think that's a tremendous shame. "
This week, our host Muna Gasim interviews Tom Parker, counterterrorism practitioner and former UN war crimes investigator for a discussion about situating the fight against terrorism within a human rights framework. They discuss the power of language, justifications for the use of force, peace standard interrogation, Guantanamo Bay, the state of policing, and more.

💥THAILAND PROTESTS & THE FATE OF THE FUTURE FORWARD PARTY is available now 💥
In our first episode back in the Declarations (virtual) studio for Easter Term, our host Muna Gasim and panellist Neema Jayasinghe speak with Chamnan Chanruang from the Future Forward Party about the anti-monarchy protests ongoing in Thailand.
Chanruang explains that power in Thailand is influenced by three main forces: businesses, politicians, and the monarchy, which wields military support. Due to rampant economic inequality, the Future Forward Party found vast support amongst the younger generations living in Thailand, who are seeking reform.

💥IN THE FIRING LINE: EXISTENTIAL RISK, CLIMATE CHANGE & HUMAN RIGHTS is available to listen now 💥
"This comes back to the question again of who is involved in decision making. You know, if you're hearing the voices of the communities that are going to be affected by these policies and if you know how they're going to be affected, then it makes it a lot easier to actually get it right and to make the kind of policy that works for the communities that are really at the front lines"
Join us for this fascinating discussion with Natalie Jones, a researcher at The Cambridge Centre for the Study of Existential Risk, as she unpicks the intersection between Existential Risk, Climate Change and Indigenous Rights.
Hosted by our wonderful host and lead, Muna Gasim, with help from our excellent panellist Eddie 🗣
