Notice: Snake Encounter Safety Tips
We have noticed several media reports about encounters with snakes. While most snakes are harmless and play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance, it's essential that we know what to do when we encounter a snake to ensure everyone's safety. Here are some guidelines on what to do if you encounter a snake:
1. Remain Calm: If you spot a snake, try to stay calm. Most snakes are not aggressive and will not attack unless they feel threatened.
2. Keep Your Distance: Maintain a safe distance from the snake. Do not attempt to approach, touch, or handle it.
3. Identify the Snake: From a safe distance, take a picture of the snake. Knowing whether it is venomous or non-venomous can help authorities provide appropriate assistance.
4. Avoid Movement: If the snake is in your vicinity, avoid sudden movements or loud noises. Snakes may perceive these as threats and react defensively.
5. Give the Snake an Escape Route: If the snake is indoors, open doors and windows to give it an opportunity to leave on its own. If outdoors, step back to allow it to move away.
6. Call 1800-476-1600: If the snake is in a place where it poses a risk, contact the authorities.
Remember, the vast majority of encounters with snakes end without incident. Following these tips, you will contribute to the safety and well-being of your community.
