On Ep #123 - Andros Sturgeon & Justin Womack sit down with Aaron Iara, the creator of The Effective Nerd.

It's the geeks versus the nerd as we settle the debate once and for all as to who is cooler, geeks or nerds... It turns out its nerds, so it got awkward quick.

Our guest, Aaron Iara, describes himself as a life-long nerdy person with a wide variety of interests and a passion for making music. After graduating college, Aaron found himself in a position where his degree wasn't landing him jobs and his student loan debt was piling up.

It was at this point that he began working smarter, not harder so he could lead a productive life while maintaining his nerdy obsessions. The only alternative would be to accept a soul-deadening job that would pay the bills but come at the cost of his quality of life. Over the past decade, he's built up his skill-sets and maintained The Effective Nerd blog which continues to grow in popularity.

He's navigated the speed bumps, survived the scares, and now has begun to teach others how he has been able to make a living WITHOUT a corporate job.

Check it out. The Marketing Geeks Podcast was just shouted out in Empire Financial Research's newsletter for our interviews with two of the country's best short-sellers, Dan David and Carson Block, which the publication "really enjoyed."

Dan and Carson were both prominently featured in the hit documentary movie, 'The China Hustle,' and both shared powerful stories and fascinating takes on what's happening now between the US and China, as well as with the current financial markets.

You can listen to both of these interviews on the Marketing Geeks Podcast with Dan David, Episode #106, and Carson Block, Episode #116. I'll throw some links in the comments area.

Marketing Geeks - The Origin Story

A LONG TIME AGO, Justin Womack and Andros Sturgeon were mere everyday people. We weren’t the marketing geek superstar hosts that you know today. It’s difficult to recall back to that time and remember what it was like. Things have changed so fast. I mean, back then we could go out in public and we were just run of the mill humans. Now, we are so famous that people actually recognize us just from our voices. Whether we’re at a coffee shop or walking around the town, the Marketing Geeks fans and haters come out in force to let us know how awesome and terrible of a job we are doing. The life of a midcard podcaster.

So, how did this brilliant show start anyways? Was there some inspirational sign that drove us to follow our divinely earth mission? Well, it was close to that. Back in June 2018, as I said a long, long time back, I had just become a new father. If you don’t know who’s writing this, this is the voice of Justin Womack, the smart geek. So, in late May, my wife and I had welcomed a new baby boy into the world. Marketing Geeks was born on the day he turned one month old. Rather than spending all of my waking hours with the baby that day, I somehow finagled myself away to the office where the legendary first recording of Marketing Geeks took place.

It’s a bit of a blur, but Andros had asked whether we should try this whole podcast thing out. I believe I responded with a lackluster “sure” and with that, we were off to the races. Marketing Geeks was born out of that deep and profound conversation. The depth of our personalities and philosophical undertakings show themselves in each of the episodes of the show.

Marketing Geeks has undergone many changes, we’ve dealt with the addition and departure of a host, we’ve started experimented with ads, and we even changed our theme music at some point.
