Yesterday we posted about the grand United Lutheran Church on Cottonwood Street with its beautiful Art Deco architecture. Today's nod to historic preservation looks at one of the three congregations that moved to form United. Trinity Lutheran Church on Walnut St was one of the earliest churches in Grand Forks. The modest wood-framed building served two separate congregations for more than a century. It was eventually vacated following the 1997 flood and gifted to the City's Community Land Trust for development.

Preservation comes in many forms, and although the church no longer stands on Walnut Street, Chris Price's history" The Old Church on Walnut Street", preserves the memory of the building and the immigrants that formed the congregations and contributed to the social, cultural and religious fabric of the City.

If you are interested in learning more, the book is available for free as a downloadable pdf here: https://thedigitalpress.org/the-old-church-on-walnut-street/
