We recorded this episode well over a year ago but we still think it’s an important one to listen to. Friend of the show and contributor to “French All Around Us”, Joseph Dunn was lucky enough to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron when he visited New Orleans. Of course Jesse and Joseph will talk about other things but this was a brilliant conversation we wanted to share.

For all the moms and all the farmers. For all the people who have been apart of my life and helped me get to this point in my career, I sincerely hope that you can celebrate a piece of this Olympic journey because the Olympics is about unity and is much bigger than any single person.

I’m going to give it everything I have tonight and will run with many people in my heart ❤️🤍💙

Melody is behind the FCL news desk to start the episode and then Jesse will let you know a little about next week’s episode. It’s an episode that we recorded awhile ago. Friend of the show Dunn Joseph joins us to talk about Emmanuel Macron’s visit to New Orleans, that happened in December of 2022. It was recorded awhile ago but we think it’s an amazing conversation. We hope you’ll come back next week to listen!

New Post from Patrick!!

Oh did someone say 'new blog post'? Here I dive into the second phase of historian Mason Wade's career. Wade penned the once-celebrated 'French Canadians.' Today his impact on historical writing is largely forgotten. Pourquoi?

A dive into the challenge of navigating North American identities, plus "anti-Americanism, Quebec neo-nationalism, and U.S. ignorance of the North American French element"

Mason Wade's papers provide a sense of the major changes that molded Canadian and American historical writing after 1960.

This week we’re joined by the Host of the YouTube channel, Histoire d'un Nord, Philippe Aubry. We’ll admit we didn’t know much about this area of Quebec called The Laurentides. Luckily we learned a lot from his channel and Philippe was kind enough to join us. We hope you enjoy learning about this area as much as we did!

New from Patrick Lacroix!!

🚨 New on the blog 🚨
Tracing the steps and reconstructing the lives of rural French Vermonters through local archives.

"Generally, local taxpayers did not want to see the town farm incur a deficit that they would have to make up. That helped determine who might be selected, not that anyone truly wished to be on the dole (or on the farm). This was a last resort that no doubt injured the pride of those who had nowhere else to go—and that provides a sorry glimpse into the Crosses’ circumstances in the first decade of the twentieth century."

Records of town offices in rural Vermont help fill the gaps in our understanding of a poor French-Canadian immigrant's life.
