Using Music to Increase Engagement with Students with Special Needs During Classroom Activities: the MuniMethod
Brian W. Muni, OTD, OTL
Music as a treatment modality, can be seamlessly integrated into pediatric occupational therapy activities, from handling egg shakers and maracas during upper extremity stretching and strengthening to singing the ABC song when writing letters. Presenting new research conducted for his Chatham University clinical doctoral capstone, Dr. Brian Muni will provide participants with a roadmap as to why and how to utilize musical interventions in their occupational therapy practice. He will draw on 30 years of experience using music in occupational therapy and will share research, methodologies, strategies, and examples of musical interventions that can help reach occupational therapy goals, even for those not musically inclined.
After this presentation, participants will be able to:

create a therapeutic treatment plan utilizing musical interventions when working with school children with special needs
