About the new single, Stuart Staples explains: “Some say that there are only a few different types of songs. Nancy definitely falls in to the classic ‘guy f***s up / begs for forgiveness’ bracket - but hopefully with a few surprises along the way. Like much of Soft Tissue, the musical spark of excitement came from the creation of the rhythm track - Earl Harvin gated, echoed and fused with a CR78. Dan McKinna’s bass and David Boulter’s organ arpeggios combining into a heavy sauce. Nice brass too.”

As a standout track from Sinkane’s recently released album We Belong, “The Anthem” is an unapologetic celebration of Black culture, with each note reverberating community, history, and pride. It was the first track written for Soft Tissue and a springboard for the album’s thematic concerns about personal/public worlds knocked off-kilter. The arrangements pick up close to where 2016’s The Waiting Room left off and steer the record into febrile terrain, balanced between the band letting loose, Julian Siegel’s brass arrangements, Dan McKinna’s string arrangements and Gina Foster’s soulful backing vocals.
The video, as well as the album artowork were made with Staples’ artist daughter Sidonie Osborne Staples.
