TheFarang.net TheFarang.net is a blog about expat life in Bangkok, Thailand Our blog is named after the Thai word for foreigner: farang.

More precisely, farang is a reference to white-skinned, European foreigners, a designation that notably doesn’t include blacks, Arabs or other Asian foreigners. Though there is some discussion about the history of the word, the common wisdom is that farang is derived from the Thai word farangseet, which can mean either France or French. To some, this is a derogatory word that just reinforces the s

uperiority complex that seems to infest Thai culture, but life is easier when you just take these sorts of judgements with a grain of salt. So, to us, a farang is just a foreigner, and TheFarang.net is a blog about life in Thailand through the eyes of a foreigner.
