20/12/2022

There is a myriad of reasons why couples don't make time for date night, but money doesn't have to be one of them. 👫🏾💰

Reasons you should have a date night with your spouse this week:

✅Maintain intimacy with your partner

✅Discuss topics outside of work and the kids

✅Quality 1:1 time

✅Take yourself out of the daily routine and experience something new with your spouse

Blocking time out for you and your spouse is sometimes put on the back burner and not included in your budget. Here are some tips on how you can make date night a priority in your budget...

1️⃣Find areas in your budget to cut back on - Where can you reduce $20-$30 to put toward an outing?

2️⃣Allocate money from your paycheck and put it in a sinking fund - this is a good way to make sure that date night doesn’t infringe on your budget and you can still enjoy a night out with your spouse.

3️⃣Find inexpensive date night ideas - There are so many things you can do that don’t cost a lot of money

We know what it's like to be burdened by debt and wonder if you can enjoy life while trying to get your finances in order. The truth is you can. You just have to be creative and focus on what is important and that is spending time with your spouse, not how much money you spend.

When RJ and I were paying off our debt we attended matinee movies instead of going at night to save money. We frequented happy hours for good food and drinks that didn't burn our wallets. And we even read books to each other and discussed the topics...(Too cheesy? lol)

Remember, it's not about the money, it's about the time you share with one another.

Do you agree? Are date nights in your budget? Let us know in the comments. 👇🏽

Are you building assets or are you building liabilities?

“An asset is something that puts money in my pocket. A liability is something that takes money out of my pocket.” - Robert Kiyosaki, Rich Dad Poor Dad

When we first started on our financial health journey over 9 years ago, one of the first financial books we read as a couple was Rich Dad, Poor Dad.

Like many, that book was a game changer for us and completely changed the way we viewed our money and spending.

Knowing the difference between an asset and liability is vital and we love this simple definition.

We are intentional about putting our money toward items that will pay us or give us a return on our investment, instead of things that cost us or depreciate in value.

Do you agree?

What are some assets that you are putting your money toward?

10/12/2022

Fights about money are a leading cause of divorce for couples, a part of our mission is to see couples win with money and work together as a team to build wealth.👫🏾

Here are some ways to combat each of the leading causes of money arguments:

1. Frivolous Spending: RJ and I each have an "allowance" to spend as we please. Each month, the agreed upon amount is transferred to our individual bank accounts. This gives each us a level of "freedom" to spend money on non-household items that may be important to one of us. (i.e. Brunch w/ friends, takeout that is outside of our normal budget...etc)

2. Household Budgeting: Budget dates nights are a great way for couples to get on the same page and eliminate fighting. Cuddling up together w/ a glass of wine to discuss your spending plan for the month creates a more inviting atmosphere while discussing your financial goals. Remember your on the same time. 👩‍❤️‍👨

3. Credit card debt: Bringing up debt can be taboo or a conversation couples choose to avoid for fear of arguing. Having monthly budget dates nights will help you know just how much you can put on your credit card and when it should be paid off. 💳

4. Insufficient Emergency Savings: An emergency fund is vital for life's unexpected events. Having at least 3-6 months of expenses in a savings account is key, so you don't have to reach for your credit card and accrue more debt.🚨

5. Insufficient Retirement Savings: Planning early for retirement is key and having regular conversations about what % of your income to invest for retirement is important. As part of our money dates, we talk about all our investments, how much we are allocating and if we need to make adjustments based on our goals for the year.🏦

How would you combat these money arguments?

30/11/2022

Saving and investing are both important to build a strong financial foundation, however it’s important to know the difference between the two concepts.💰

Savings should be used for short term goals, like an upcoming vacation that you’re putting money aside for. Additionally, saving for unexpected emergencies is vital to maintaining a strong financial position. Instead of putting an emergency or unexpected expense on a credit card, the funds should be easily accessible in a savings account. 🏦

Investing is putting aside money for the purpose of growing your money by allocating money in the stock market, real estate, or a business. 📈

Savings is lower risk with a lower return compared to investing, which is higher risk, but the return on your investment will be higher.

Said a little differently…saving is putting your money in a safe place and letting it sleep. While, investing is telling your money to wake up and get to work for you.
