We had such an amazing lineup of guests in 2023!! Why not take the weekend to catch up on all the episodes from this year? Every single one was a winner and a delight~ The tenth year of was a success. It’s still hard to believe it’s been ten years. I’ve learned a lot and met so many great people through this podcast. Time capsule article from 2002: "Hoch and Sexton insist they only agreed to play soldiers in the film (nominated for four Oscars, including Best Director for Ridley Scott) because the original script was boldly critical of America’s 1993 military engagement in Somalia. Extensive revisions began right after former U.S. Army Rangers were hired as advisers, the actors say.

“They were assholes,” said Sexton. “All they did was smoke ci**rs and criticize how we held our M-16s.”

“One of them bragged he’d killed over 60 people,” said Hoch."

Denouncing a hit movie in which you appear is a risky role for any actor -- much less a young, aspiring one. Yet Danny Hoch and Brendan Sexton III have decided to go public with their political qualms about Black Hawk Down: "It wasn't the great [...]

Here's a fun thing: There is now a Chrome extension that provides ASL Interpreting for movies on DisneyPlus and Netflix. It's called "SignUp Captions" and it's free. The interpreters are Deaf actors/entertainers. They are constantly expanding their library and you can even request a movie that isn't there yet. There are about 60 movies available so far, including Coco, The Incredibles, Black Panther, Frozen, Up, Zootopia, and more.
Here's a link to their page on the chrome web store: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/signup-sign-language-for/gbllbjbhbafgdcolenjhdoabdjjbjoom

Episode 55 reveal!! Available now! A casually hilarious chat with Christian Einselbrooks, artist, long-time weeb, hood movie aficionado, and the funniest person on Mixtape's social media feed -- and now yours! Christian brings a very special comedy to the table, an epic parody film that covers many more bases than it may at first seem!

We also discuss cartoon dads; what "casual" means when it comes to movie watchin'; the hood classics and what they have in common; what needs to stay in 1995, but what we want to bring back (PARDNER!); next level hamming; the importance of showing the laughs and not just the struggles; having fun with The Message; the best way to be a hater (with love); Hollywood's problem with portraying only a very narrow selection of Black stories; the importance of QUOTABLES!; and how "Don't Be a Menace" allows viewers to watch hood classics with a wider, more nuanced lens! MESSAGE!

This episode was a blast to record, hope you enjoy!

Episode 2 of Riffraff Reads is now up on YouTube, which you can find in the linktr.ee in our bio! New episodes some Sundays. ;) Episode 55 of Bring Your Own Popcorn podcast is coming on Tuesday February 21st! 🍿

RIFFRAFF READS EPISODE 2: Together, we read stuff you want to know but won't read alone! In the second episode of Riffraff Reads, your host Mixtape Majesty will be reading, riffing, and chatting with you about Chapter 2 of the book Overthrow: America's Century of Regime Change from Hawaii to Iraq, written by New York Times foreign correspondent & author Stephen Kinzer about the United States' involvement in the overthrow of foreign governments from the late 19th century to the time of its writing (2006).

Chapter 2 is all about the Spanish-American War, Cuba, and the Philippines, and how the United States govt and military bumbled, fumbled, and horrifically murdered tens of thousands of people on the US conquest for the biggest thumb in the global market pie.

The first episode of RIFFRAFF READS is now available for replay on YouTube! This is the new streaming show from Bring Your Own Popcorn. Together, we read stuff you want to know but won't read alone!

In this first episode, we read chapter 1 of Overthrow: America's Century of Regime Change from Hawaii to Iraq, written by New York Times foreign correspondent & author Stephen Kinzer about the United States' involvement in the overthrow of foreign governments from the late 19th century to the time of its writing (2006). Chapter 1 is all about Queen Liliuokalani and the circumstances that led to her and her Native Hawaiian government being overthrown by US insurgents in 1893.

This will be a Twitch streaming show at least once a month, sometimes more, and I'll upload the streams to YouTube as long as I don't get any copyright trouble.
