It’s seven years to the day that I met Mimi. I was going through a nasty divorce and decided I needed a Valentine. I went to MDAS to adopt an overweight chihuahua named Miami Babe (true story) but she was adopted. A volunteer told me a girl just came in from the dog catching truck. I met Mimi not 30
Minutes after she’d been taken to that horror of a place. I adopted her on the spot. I had to wait for her to be spayed for. A few days so I actually brought her home on Feb 13. We would have been celebrating our seventh anniversary. I miss her every day. I beg her forgiveness every single night. I’m better but I’ll always be heartbroken and I will always hate myself. Always. Please today- hug your dog. Love her up. Kiss her nose and tell her you’re the lucky one. And always adopt don’t shop.

Walked three miles in some chilly 40 degree rain from Jersey City to Hoboken for a glass of wine at one of my favorite places. Mascara running down my face, eyeliner smudged but as happy as I could ever be! Find the joy in being perfectly imperfect. Find the joy in a glass of pinot noir. And find the joy in walking in the rain! Highly recommend it.

Note to bar professionals and restaurateurs: the bar snack is a dying breed. The act of placing a small dish of nuts or chips alongside your cocktail is hospitality at its finest. For me, it’s the most welcome gesture a bartender can do. Thank you for this act of elegant kindness. For my Insta peeps, I’d love to do a story on the bar snack. What is your favorite? Do you like? Want to give these poor kiddos some comfort in this kill shelter. I adopted my Harry from here the day he was scheduled to be euthanized. He lived to be 16. Better yet. Come and adopt one of these babies.
