Recorded a sample pack from an old junkyard drum kit I’ve had taking up room in the house - kick, snare, toms and floor, hats and a very ordinary ride cymbal. A bit of eq, compression and tape saturation to finish it off. Several round-robins for a number of different velocities for variation. Now to find a song to use it on! 🎧
I finally got around to sampling my mum’s old upright piano. I used two Rode LDC mics through stereo Neve Unison preamps. African Banjo in a thunder storm
This is, I believe, an ornamental African Banjo. It's not actually meant to be played: it has six wire strings, but without frets, it can only generate six notes. Unique sounding, but strictly limited.
When sampled, however, you can create more options. To keep it sounding natural, I've limited the end range to an octave and a half, but I reckon you can still get a nice tune out of it. 🎧
Thunder in Melbourne
Thunder in Melbourne on a ukulele. I've sampled the uke - my little Peavey - four round-robbins worth, played through a MIDI keyboard. The thunder was recorded this evening in Melbourne with my Nude C12 out the back door.

Aldi CigarBox guitar sampled!
Spent a couple of hours recording a bunch of single note samples from a $20 Aldi CigarBox guitar. I captured 28 separate notes, ranging from the lowest to the highest, using a large condenser microphone and a small condenser microphone stereo pair setup. The samples were RX7 noise-reduced, mixed, and finally bounced into separate files that were then loaded into the Logic Pro X Sampler app and used to create this piece.

Sailors
Another exercise of a couple of hours to create a soundtrack for a 60 second video. 🎧
Ondes Musicales
Setting myself a goal of a couple of hours to build up some music to a short video clip - only a minute long, using some new MIDI and sample toys to try them out. Enjoy the weeekend! 🎧

Nine Days In Jail
Trying out my OPR U87 microphone on some rubber-band blues with a $20 Aldi cigar-box and a Peavey uke. One mic on everything. 🎧😎🎧

Recording some 80s style guitar for a project. Running the tele through a Roland Chorus pedal into two amps, both miked with an SM57 and an OPR Grill ribbon, with all four channels processed through UA SSL Unison preamps. Noice! 🎧😎🎧

Busy this week mixing a bunch (like 25 songs) of live multi-track recordings from an event a few years back. Several bands, great players, and a variety of different material. 🎧😎🎧

Harvey Constable on the skins
Productive session with the slick Harvey Constable from Limelight on the skins today in Guffland!

Have been playing with the sound on some film scenes over these last months - this one is from No Country For Old Men and is primarily about adding some music, though I have added a few sound effects to flesh it out a little. It’s a binaural mix so use your headphones/earbuds for the full surround experience.
