There are so many good photo opportunities when shooting construction and heavy equipment. Here are a few favorite images from a couple weeks back with .

I loved how the morning light was hitting the excavator and the crepe myrtle behind it ⛅️

✴️ They were excavating at the UGA Delta Zeta house (interesting DZ was my next door neighbor when I was a Sigma Chi at Georgia) and I got to park in the same spot I parked in 25 years earlier as an undergrad fraternity guy.

Loved the time we spent resort. I’ve loved coming down to St. Simons and the Golden Isles on vacations and Georgia/Florida for years, but this was our first visit to the K&P.

We were blessed with beautiful weather, amazing accommodations, and (as a photographer) everywhere you turn there’s a photo to be made.

Thanks to my family for putting up with my constant need for taking pictures 😎📸

Oh, and one more thing we did that we had never done before - Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island is a must. That place is unbelievable.

Participating in Little League since he was 5 and representing Oconee County Little League since 2018, Walker played his final game last night, going 4 for 5 and batting .583 for the tournament. However, the Oconee County Little League Sr. League All-Star team fell to East Marietta 10-9 in the championship series.

Little League isn’t just for the kids, the age ranges go all the way to 16U, which is Sr. League. But what an amazing experience it has been for our entire family throughout the years. From dad’s getting to coach their sons, to making lifelong friends with teammates’ families, to yes, even creating long-lasting relationships with the umpires you see day in and day out (those exact umps are in the photo).

Baseball mimics life. There’s ups and downs, but you learn from mistakes and keep trying to go out there and do your best.

Walker plays travel baseball for the Watkinsville Rockets, plays for Oconee County High School Warrior Baseball, but there’s just something nostalgic about watching a little league competition with those ubiquitous patches on the sleeves, Oconee on the front, and names on the back of the jersey and knowing that if you just keep winning you might get to play in the national tournament.

The next-to-last photo is the final photo I took of Walker leaving the field. He represented the winning run for Oconee in the game, but E. Marietta made a great play to end the game. The final photo in the set is him playing his first game for Oconee Little League in 2018.

It didn’t work out for these guys this year, but OCLL Baseball is in good hands with the dedicated coaches, families and facilities. Thank you Little League.

The last weekend of June proved to be about as hot, dry, and dusty as one would expect here in Georgia. The were to be up to the challenge, but fell short in the final game 4-1.

I usually like to move around to get multiple perspectives during games, but I found a chair and a tent right behind home plate and ended up parking myself there for most of the day.

I see and photograph a lot of baseball and I’m always impressed by the grit and hustle these teenagers display when playing the game 🫡

Shooting for as they were working on a “decel lane” grading and installing GAB - coming off Highway 78 for the Westland subdivision.

The hot and dry Georgia heat turned into a steamy shower (you’ll notice the dump truck photo was taken before the rain).

There are few  times that I get mad at myself for not getting the shot, but it happened this weekend, when I had it all setup in front of me and simply missed it. (Check the last photo)😡

Baseball is my favorite sport to photograph. It’s probably because it is a sport I played, coached and have shot the most of. I’ve learned throughout my life of loving this game that it is very hard to master. Photographing baseball can be equally hard to generate high-quality photography because the speed of the game when a ball is put in play all while looking through a viewfinder, trying to track players and anticipating where the throw will go is hard to do pitch-by-pitch.

You have to make sure you’re in focus, dial in the right shutter speed, figure out if you need to be zoomed in or out, and also adjust the exposure because with day games, the light could be totally different from one part of the field to the next. I can’t tell you how many times I have to ask someone else, “What just happened?” because I cannot get the entire context of the result of the play as my eye is buried in my viewfinder. I love the constant challenge and man, it is so much fun when you realize you’ve got a “keeper”.

Sometimes the non-action shots of the game are just as interesting and frame-worthy as the hitter smashing a ball, or applying the tag.

Photographing sports, particularly baseball I always want to get the action. On average this season shooting Oconee County High School Warrior Baseball I’d come home with 200-350 images and 60+ video clips as I feverishly switched back and forth between photo & video mode on my EOSR.

So I wanted to share these 10 pictures from Oconee County’s run to the final four in the GHSA state playoffs. These are some of the scenes of players and fans from before, during, and after the game that didn’t include any game action.

I followed OCHS to Atlanta -> Ringgold-> Thomasville -> Harlem as they battled through some of the toughest situations they’d faced all season. Pretty good run if you ask me. Thanks to all the players, coaches, and moms and dads. Y’all made my job easy and a helluva lotta fun 📸🎥

I love the opportunity every year to take photos for during the CrossFit Open. Seeing all types of our neighbors here in Oconee County - young, old, elite athletes and even dad bods give it their all is amazing 💪

A few favorites (in order) from our pre-Valentines dinner date in downtown Athens. Note: favorites only mean photograph style and all that other technical stuff - bc obviously the one with Jennifer is my favorite 😍

I bought a 77mm Black Pro-Mist 1/4 Filter. Their website states that it:
• Reduces Highlights and Lowers Contrast
• Softens Wrinkles and Blemishes
• Creates a Soft Quality of Light
• ColorCore Technology

The number one thing that was obvious to me was how it does a great job at creating that soft quality of light, which is why I wanted to take my camera at night. Safe to say I’m pretty pleased with the investment after one evening of shooting with it 📸

High school baseball season here in Georgia starts next week. Baseball and golf are my two favorite sports to photograph because of all the unique angles you can shoot from.

Things like the fence are not a problem. I just use it to my advantage to help create interest. This shot was behind the fence of the bullpen as Walker was warming up to pitch in today’s scrimmage .

Every Christmas I select my favorite 32 images that I have photographed for the calendar year and then frame them on the wall to hang there for the next 12 months. So naturally I had to get off to a quick start for 2024 this morning.

We celebrated our kids’ last day out of school before the final push towards May. We have travel volleyball, high school baseball, and high school golf to get through and it’s gonna fly by.

It’s awesome to take some time in Athens and enjoy the area we’ve called home for 19 years.
