Pedro Mariscal National High School held a one-day health symposium on August 8, 2025, addressing critical issues affecting todayโs youth, including teenage pregnancy, HIV and STIs, to***co and substance use, and mental health.
The event opened with Ms. Zyra Dawn E. Cadusal, RN, who tackled the pressing concern of teenage pregnancy. Her talk emphasized the importance of responsible decision-making and access to accurate reproductive health information.
Next, Mr. Prince Raymond Paraiso, RN, HEPO IV, delved into the topic of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. His informative session was followed by free HIV testing and counseling, allowing students to access important health services directly on campus.
In the afternoon, Mr. Michael Philip F. Cervantes, RN, discussed the dangers of to***co and substance abuse, raising awareness about their harmful effects on both physical and mental health.
The symposium concluded with a powerful session on mental health and su***de prevention, led by Mr. Arjon S. Dalucan. His talk highlighted the importance of emotional resilience, peer support, and the availability of mental health resources.
Division nurse Mrs. Jenevive Avila Pongase and district nurse Mrs. Maricris R. Masaganda were also in attendance, facilitating the event alongside personnel from the Sta. Maria Rural Health Unit.
Students expressed appreciation for the symposium, noting that the discussions broadened their understanding and opened their minds to the realities and challenges surrounding these issues. The activity served not only as an educational opportunity but also as a safe space for dialogue and empowerment.
