Bibi Ka Alam Procession Arrives at Peeli Gate, Purani Haveli Palace According to 400 Year Tradition
(RAHNUMA) Bibi Ka Alam makes a traditional halt at the 'Peeli Gate' of Purani Haveli Palace for members of the Royal Family to make offering, pay obeisance before Bibi's Relic, and tie a ‘dhatti’ to the Alam. The practice of installing the Alam is 434 years old, dating back to the Qutb Shahi period.
The Alam contains a wooden plank Relic on which Bibi Fatima al-Zahra, daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was given the final ablution.
According to historians, as devotees to the family of the Prophet Muhammad, Hyderabad's kings of both the Qutb Shahi era and Asaf Jahi era have paid annual homage to the Relic, seeking Divine blessings by its presence in the city as a means, Wasela, for Divine Grace and prosperity.
In the 1950's, Hyderabad's last Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan Siddiqui presented six priceless diamonds and other jewellery to adorn the Alam protecting the sacred Relic.
Eve of Ashura in in Hyderabad is rich with cultural traditions from the period of its very founding over 400 years ago.
