The production of **un has yet to finalize its script for season 2, and apart from Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada), we don't have any clue who are the characters who will return.
But one thing is certain, we won't be seeing three of the best characters in Shōgun 1 😞 Lady Mariko (Anna Sawai), Toda Hiromatsu (Tokuma Nishioka), and Yabushige (Tadanobu Asano).
But who knows? They might appear in flashbacks. Usually, when drama characters are much loved by the audience, the production will make it possible to still include them, even just in flashbacks. So we're hoping.
Shōgun season 2 might open with a Battle of Sekigahara (most Asian drama fans who are used to watching Asian historical series with lots of actions have been hoping this).
Battle of Sekigahara was an important battle in the history of Japan. It's where the rise of the Tokugawa Sh**unate (the last military government of Japan) began. It paved the way for Tokugawa Ieyasu's (the prototype of Yoshii Toranaga's character) rise to power.
He was one of the three "Great Unifiers" of Japan, along with his former lord, Oda Nobunaga, and fellow Oda subordinate Toyotomi Hideyoshi (who was depicted as the retired Taikō in Shōgun season 1). Tokugawa Ieyasu didn't become a Shōgun until 1603, three years after his victory in the Battle of Sekigahara.
The Siege of Osaka, the final military effort to thwart Tokugawa's reign by the Taikō's son, might be shown in season 3.
