Just opened - all vegan ice cream and w**e bar De Boule De Boule! Also pastries and savoury lunch options, in a beautifully designed space right in the city centre. 🤩
Back in 2017 Kirsi Rautiainen co-founded popular vegan restaurant Mr. & Mrs. Watson. After they closed in 2023 she went on to work for a small vegan ice cream company, but she missed the excitement of being an entrepreneur. She got the idea of maybe opening an ice cream parlor, where people could sit down to enjoy ice cream. After she visited a popular bar in Paris which combined ice cream and w**e, her idea came together! The motto became to offer ‘little moments of happiness’, through an ice cream, a glass of w**e, or both! And the name? This refers to a scoop of ice cream as well as to a w**eglass.
They offer twelve different ice cream flavours, for example saffron-orange, pistachio or hojicha-straciatella. A key ingredient they use is fava bean protein, which makes the ice cream super creamy! You can choose different toppings like whipped cream, fresh fruit, caramel sauce, hazelnut etc.
The w**es (all organic or natural) are selected by sommelier Dominique Corver. She made a small selection of French and Portuguese w**es: white, red, rose and dessert w**e. Ask them for pairings with the ice cream!
They also offer a modest food menu, from savoury focaccias to filled almond croissant, various pies and crêpes. Including famous French dessert Crêpes Suzette! Coffee options include Greek Frappé coffee and of course Affogato.
The interior of De Boule De Boule is beautifully designed, with a grand bar which captures the eye. In the middle you’ll find a vinyl dj booth. Take a seat at one of the bar stools, or at a sofa or armchair in one of the cosy corners.
De Boule De Boule is located inside the Stopera building at Waterlooplein. Entrances are straight from the market at the square, or from inside the building where the counters of city hall used to be! Here you’ll find other stores and restaurants as well, part of a new project called Amstel1. Metrostation Waterlooplein is just around the corner.
