"It Starts With the Brain"
by Michael Wynn, D.O.
Half.
Hemi.
Two hemispheres scribed
by fold and furrow,
the primal font of the gothic novel
What Hath Evolution Wrought?
Two bound together for the One—
our gray planet from which everything
begins. All of it—
Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea,
violin partitas on Tuesday mornings,
AK-47s, blue Mazdas,
The Pantheon.
All of it relentless as the yellow
cotton dress falling away
on an August afternoon.
Insistent as Dante’s poetry
extolling illicit love.
I am Paolo.
Next Thursday’s barista—Francesca.
All of it.
In every circle and sphere.
All.
