FROM DENISON PD:
It is with a broken heart that we inform you of the passing of one of our own, Officer Will Deering, who lost his short-lived battle with leukemia earlier today.

Officer Deering was a dedicated member of the Denison Police Department, serving with honor, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of our community. His contributions both on and off the job were invaluable, and his sense of duty was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Officer Deering will be remembered not only for his service but for the kindness, courage, and compassion he brought to every aspect of his life. He was more than a colleague; he was a husband, a father, a friend, a mentor, and a source of strength for all who knew him.

During this time of profound grief, our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Deering’s family, friends, and loved ones. We ask that you keep them in your hearts as they navigate this difficult journey.

The impact Officer Deering had on our department and community will never be forgotten. We honor his memory by continuing to serve with the same dedication and selflessness that he exemplified every day. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the difference he made.

🔥DOLLAR TREE WAREHOUSE ON FIRE 🔥

The Dollar Tree warehouse that was damaged in the EF4 Marietta tornado in April is now on fire.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/syBS5edrYMzes43B/?mibextid=oFDknk

As I’m sure you are all aware the Dollar Tree warehouse has caught fire this morning.

This is an all call for all Fire Departments in our County. This will be an exhausting day for all of the Fire personnel so please limit your controlled burns or make sure you have a good fire break and resources to manage it.

If you are traveling north or southbound on I-35 please remain cautious near Marietta as the smoke is blowing directly across the interstate. If it gets too bad we will have to shut down the interstate and divert traffic to Highway 77 so please plan your travel to accommodate this.

Please don’t cause a wreck by taking photos and videos of the fire. All of our resources are working this fire.

I will update when I can but this is a fluid and complex fire scene so updates may be spread out.

Disclaimer: we did not take this photo, but it does show the severity of the scene.

UPDATE** 10:00am
There is no hazardous material in this fire anything hazardous and all hazardous chemicals were removed after the tornado therefore unless you have asthma or are susceptible to medical issues due to smoke fire officials don’t predict any issues arising from the smoke in the air.

Those with asthma or are susceptible to health concerns due to fire should remain inside and away from the smoke.

UPDATE** 10:30
Firemen are working from inside the structure to try and get the fire out. It has taken at least 1/3 of the building which is on fire now and there are concerns with roof collapsing so fire personnel are working very slowly and monitoring the roof area with drone. We have our rehab set up providing water/gatorade/ food etc so at this time we are asking for everyone to stay away from the area.

In the coming days we may ask for some light donations to replenish what has been used today. Thank you all for your outpouring support and willingness to donate.

🚨GUNTER BUS IN MINOR ACCIDENT🚨

https://www.facebook.com/share/BwDgXcQpdee3A1iy/?mibextid=oFDknk

Tiger family,

We would like to reiterate that it was a minor accident. All students are safe. This happened at morning drop off at our middle school campus on bus 4. The driver of the other vehicle attempted to go around our bus just as the stop signs were being activated, resulting in the stop sign damage. The bus will be repaired and checked thoroughly before we load it with students.

We ask that you be overly cautious when driving around any school bus because we do carry precious cargo. Here is a photo of the stop sign.

Email:[email protected]

Fatal Pursuit Incident on U.S. Highway 75 Van Alstyne, TX – On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at approximately 9:38 PM, the Van Alstyne Police Department received a transferred 911 call from Collin County. The caller reported a gray Dodge truck driving recklessly northbound on U.S. Highway 75, striking barriers and other vehicles along the way.

Officers from the Van Alstyne Police Department quickly located the truck and observed the erratic driving behavior. Upon activating their emergency lights and sirens, the driver of the truck refused to stop, turning off the vehicle’s lights and continuing northbound on U.S. Highway 75 at a high rate of speed. North of FM 902 in Howe, the truck crossed the grass median to the service road before attempting to reenter the highway. At this point, the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The driver, the only occupant, was identified as 37-year-old Delio Lomas, a resident of Dallas, who was ejected from the truck. Officers on the scene immediately provided first aid until EMS arrived who then took over life-saving measures. Lomas was transported to AHS Sherman Medical Center Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Texas Department of Highway Patrol is assisting in the crash investigation.

It was later determined that the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the evening from a grocery store parking lot in McKinney. Additionally, it was discovered that Lomas had been released from Collin County Jail just hours before the incident, where he had been held for a probation violation related to theft. There were no other reported injuries as a result of this incident.

The Van Alstyne Police Department extends its condolences to Mr. Lomas's family and appreciates the cooperation and assistance of the Texas Department of Highway Patrol and Sherman Police Department in this ongoing investigation.
