Have you tried to share a news story on Facebook or Instagram and got the message that your ability to do that is blocked in Canada? There’s a reason for that and this episode of Ellected, Sarah sits down with the person responsible, Canada’s Minister of Heritage Pascale St-Onge @pascale.stonge to discuss the status of the Bill C-18, the Online News Act, and negotiations with Meta over compensation to Canadian news organizations and more.

My last conversation with @rachelnotleyab as leader of the @albertandp is out now.
This clip from our conversation is about who didn’t know her when she became the leader in 2014 and if you’re like me, you’ll be surprised by who it was.
A very big thank you to everyone who shared their questions for Rachel Notley with me. I really hope you enjoy this episode of @ellectedpodcast.

@pancholi_rakhi is absolutely right - diversity isn’t a superficial exercise.
In order for political parties to be representative of everyone they represent, it does take intentional work. And let’s be clear that different parties have different approaches to this but if in 2022 your party doesn’t take diversity seriously, if it doesn’t understand what it means to be intersectional, if it doesn’t understand the systemic barriers some face compared to the others, they aren’t taking it seriously and they will pay the price come election time.
Voters have the right to demand better from political parties, voters deserve to see themselves reflected in the party they support and vote for and it shouldn’t be an unexpected question on the doorsteps, debates or town halls when this comes up.
60 seconds from my podcast with @katiemgibbs on the #1 question she was asked during the recent Ontario election:
“How old are you?”

It’s refreshing to hear @_rajansawhney_ talking about “all Albertans” in her comments in her talk with about her bid to be the next leader of the UCP and premier of Alberta because it has sincerely felt like the decisions being made haven’t been made for all Albertans - only a specific part of the UCPs membership.
Whoever wins the leadership of the UCP, whoever wins the election next year, needs to govern for all and not just their party members.
The first conversation in this weeks series with three of the women running for the leadership of Alberta’s United Conservative Party came out on Monday.
You can listen @rebeccaschulzab talk about candidate recruitment and more and you can hear my conversation with @_rajansawhney_ that came out this morning.
“Litigating against the government is no joke…” says @kathrynmarshall2016 and she’s absolutely right.
Governments have unlimited resources and it takes enormous courage for people like @ariellakimmel86 to take them on.
All women in politics will be better off because of this case and Ariella’s bravery and Kathryn’s determination to keep pushing back against the machinery of government and its legions of lawyers.
Missed by conversation with @votekate2022? Here’s a small sample of what we talked about but there is so much more to hear about the Ontario election, Kate’s books Govern Like A Girl and No Second Chances: Women and Political Power in Canada and so much more.

The mysterious process of political candidate vetting gets talked about in last weeks episode of @ellectedpodcast with @kwetoday.
And here’s what I’m thinking coming out of it: There is no reason political parties shouldn’t make political vetting forms public. I will be asking political parties in coming elections to disclose their vetting forms. Vetting is done in the interest of political parties in their own interests but also essentially in the publics interest - they want to asses individuals and risks to their brands and electoral hopes but also, there is a true public benefit to possibly knowing what someone believes and certain aspects of their past.
If you haven’t listened already, get the full upside with Naomi using the link in bio to subscribe and listen to Ellected.
My next guest in this weeks podcast is Senator @kimpateonthehill coming out this Wednesday morning!

It’s not just children who benefit from incredible childhood educators - it’s also parents who benefit because it allows us to work.
54% of Alberta children under the age of six are in some form of child care according to data from 2021 from Stats Canada. That means that every child that makes up every percentage of that static has parents or caregivers that have the ability to work and make choices for their families. This ability to access to high quality and affordable child care is critical - especially for women.
