Celebrations and excitement as Omusinga wa Rwenzururu Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma returns to Kasese for the first time since he was arrested on 27 November 2016 after Uganda security forces burnt his palace leaving hundreds dead.

Omusinga's return follows the dropping of over 40 charges that the government of Uganda had slapped on the cultural leader and over 200 aides.

The people of Rwenzururu are happy to have their king back.

Uganda government has dropped criminal charges against Omusinga wa Rwenzururu Kingdom and 217 others. Charles W. Mumbere Iremangoma was arrested in November 2016 after the Uganda military attacked and bombed his Kasese Buhirkira palace. He and 217 loyalists have been facing charges ranging from terrorism, murder and robbery. The Directorate of Public Prosecution has today announced its dropping of charges against Omusinga and his minders. This comes after it was said Obusinga leadership was in negotiations with Government of Uganda for a possible out of court settlement.
