The SciComm Summit, October 2015 (exact date pending) in Chapel Hill, NC is the place for the social media-connected to talk science face-to-face. Members of the science community will learn about the advantages of social media communication channels and internet content in an innovative unconference format. Attendees will develop new ideas about developing engagement around their message and prom
oting their careers, organizations and businesses. The unconference format led by trained facilitators and topic experts allows more interaction than a standard conference and attendees can expect that the conversations will continue after the conference ends. Are you an experienced social media user? – Specialized tracks have been created for professional scientists to discuss science careers; for museum and nonprofit communicators to discuss promoting their message and engaging the public; and for people in the science business to discuss the complexities of their role in the science conversation within the bounds of social media etiquette. Are you new to social media and the unconference format? – An orientation will be provided on Friday evening, the night before the conference sessions begins. A social media listening session will be available Saturday morning, where you will observe and learn about the existing science communication conversation before diving into the conference. A track devoted to channels and methods will provide plentiful opportunities for conversations with experienced social media users on the nuts and bolts of social media methods, communities, and conversational best practices. Starting with Friday afternoon field trips, continuing into the conference sessions on Saturday and Sunday, there truly is something for everyone at the SciComm Summit. Students and post-docs to professionals in the non-profit, business, journalism and university communities will meet and network with fellow scientists, journalists, outreach coordinators and communication directors.
