I support the strikes. They are necessary and way overdue. Hopefully schools, teachers/mentors can stop teaching artists to work for free and be willing to be subject to any and everything just to do your chosen art form. You don’t HAVE to do anything and if more artists felt empowered enough to stand in this it makes SOME of these abuses less possible. I don’t dismiss the challenges faced in these industries, the progress that has been made, or the complex struggles. I am an artist and I’m sensitive about my sh*t! But I will NEVER subscribe to the idea that b/c a system is built wrong I have to be in compliance with it. We have been witnessing the unraveling of these systems since the pandemic from the dance circuit to our beloved pop icons and I’m shocked at how caught off guard ppl seem. What did we think would happen? It’s sad and disappointing..

The creative community as a whole needs to stop emboldening the starving artist model by making compensation a moral issue. There is no morality in poverty. Stop teaching up and coming artists to work for free, take anything that comes their way, and to prioritize the art above the money. It romanticizes a greedy system and reinforces an economic model that only benefits a few. Make the art. Maybe don’t make the art a religion. I’m in full support of the strikes. Just feels like they got to the party a little late. AI is here.

It's important that marginalized communities like the ones we come from feel seen and heard. This is not just a discussion for black people but for all people.

Regardless of who you are it is important to share stories about black children with others. I'm happy to share my experiences and speak with 2 amazing humans. Joy and empathy are such important topics and a critical need where the special needs community is concerned. That includes parents, teachers, therapists, doctors, and administrators. We will share stories and offer advice.

Claiming DESERVITUDE in 2022. I deserve whatever space and time I need to process my grief. For those of you recovering from loss, you DESERVE time to grieve and to feel safe. But you do have to get up eventually. It will feel hard and sometimes you will lay down for a few days because your heart will remember the weight of the loss. That’s also ok. Just get up again. Keep doing this for the rest of your life because in spite of the loss you deserve to live and find joy.

Be a turtle.

2017-2019 were pivotal years for me. I was exhausted and feeling like I was playing catch-up in every aspect of my life. would leave notes of encouragement on my desk at work. Whether I deserved her love or not she gave it to me fiercely. She championed me & my dreams. Today I was sorting through items I cleared out from my desk & found her notes. Today I needed to see this. Today I have to be a turtle for reasons I will not discuss here right now. Reminding myself it’s ok to go slow.

Participating in challenge. I doodled this in a meeting today. I love good music & good lyrics & this one punches me in the heart every time. It speaks to my inner-critic, the daily micro aggressions, & all the experiences along the way. Gotta watch that inside voice. Bitch be cray. Also, I don’t find haters motivating. I find them distracting. Like I want to punch them in the face or have them imprisoned. I got all the verbally degrading insults covered. I don’t need help. Let’s stop pretending that learning to ignore haters makes you strong or successful. No thanks. I don’t want to deadlift all the bs like an Olympian. If you’re a hater and you landed here, please go find one of those ppl who finds haters helpful. I’m just somebody’s daughter. Nothing to see here.
