Nantucket residents expressed their frustration after an offshore wind turbine broke and closed local beaches.

The turbine blade failed on a Saturday, and by the following Tuesday, fiberglass pieces were found on Nantucket’s south shore.

The wind turbine blades, made of fiberglass, are the size of a football field.

Will the wind company be able to remove all the fiberglass particles found on the beach?

Bob Stern of Save Long Beach Island, a group dedicated to fighting offshore wind projects in New Jersey, questioned the potential toxicity of the glues used in the turbine blades.

Residents fear a return of the infamous Barbary Coast vibe in Margate, where drunks and debauchery ruled the town.

The City of Ventnor prohibits motorized bikes on the Boardwalk. Enforcing this local ordinance is not always easy.

They’re everywhere. Electric bikes and motorized skateboards.

Some e-bikes can reach speeds of 25- 30 mph. Not only are they fast, but they’re heavy.

The 2024 Ventnor Paddle Battle Pickleball Tournament is coming to Pickle Juice Pickleball Club.

The Paddle Battle is a round-robin format pickleball tournament for players of all skill levels.

Scheduled from August 16 to 18, the tournament will be hosted at Pickle Juice, inside the all-new Ventnor Plaza.

Participants can compete in skill levels ranging from 3.0 to 5.0+, with age brackets of 19+ and 50+.

On Sunday July 22, at approx 3p, a NJ Transit bus struck a Margate woman. The incident took place in the intersection of Ventnor and Franklin Aves in Margate.

One witness tells DownbeachBUZZ the female pedestrian may have tripped or fallen prior to being struck by the bus.

Another witness tells DownbeachBUZZ the bus looked to have made a typical left turn from Ventnor Ave onto Franklin Ave where the bus would normally turn around and / or park.

LISTEN TO PODCAST : Margate Commissioner Maury Blumberg asking, ‘why saddle taxpayers with $500 in taxes annually for a parking lot that benefits Mayor Collin’s private business, Colmar Hardware?

Residents are siding with Blumberg. He’s calling for a public hearing over Margate’s proposed purchase of a contaminated gas station on Ventnor Ave which would be converted into a parking lot.

‘The taxpayer impact is huge’ says Blumberg. This will cost the average Margate taxpayer over $450 per year.

Blumberg feels that Mayor Collins should recuse himself from commenting and voting on the gas station / parking lot issue.

On the agenda for the Margate Board of Commissioners meeting schedule for this evening is a resolution ( #183-2024) awarding a professional service contract to Dottie McCrosson to be special legal counsel in the Margate Gardens Complex matter.

6 or 12 units?

Did developer build steps to 2nd retail floor without permit?

Did developer ignore stop work order?

Did developer pay fine yet?

While the many questions or concerns surrounding the Margate Gardens issue have been well documented, the real question with this resolution is why does Margate need the services of special legal counsel since the city solicitor, John Scott Abbott, has been handling the matter since it was initially discovered a few months ago?

Usually, a local government will appoint special legal counsel based on the following conditions:

1. The matter requires an attorney with a specific and unique expertise … in this case this is rather a straight forward matter that Abbott has been handling since the issue has been discovered and between himself, the city’s construction office and the municipal engineer, should be able to handle and determine if any violations took place.

A permit was issued for a project with certain requirements and the city must determine if those requirements were followed and satisfied or if there were violations. Again, rather straight forward.

2. The second reason why special counsel would be hired is if Abbott had a conflict. Apparently, he had no conflict since he has been handling the matter since the issue has been discovered. If he had a conflict, Abbott would have publicly announced that conflict at the onset of the situation and special counsel would have been acquired at that time, not several months later. That makes no sense.

Clearly, neither of these conditions reflect the current situation in Margate so the questions remains, why now does the city need special legal counsel to handle Baglivo?

The resolution provides no insight into the need so hopefully the Mayor and Commissioners along with Abbott will address tonight at the meeting. Public needs to understand why this is taking place.

Dottie McCrosson is the long time city solicitor for Ocean City along with being the personal lawyer for Mayor Jay Gillian despite the obvious conflict. Her firm, McCrosson and Stanton, specializes in real estate related legal matters in the Ocean City area.

Bottom line: all Margate taxpayers will help pay the legal bill to Ms McCrosson.

After 5 months, Margate is still looking for a Business Administrator. The critical management position has been vacant since January 2024.

Former admin Ken Mosca was let go from that position after just one year into his three year deal. Mayor Collins has yet to inform residents of why he fired Mosca.

Ken Mosca now handling community outreach for Atlantic Shores Wind, promoting the controversial plan to erect 200 wind turbines off the South Jersey coast.

One of the biggest, Ventnor beach concerts in recent memory.

On Wednesday night, July 3: The Exceptions on stage, a potentially record breaking crowd on the beach and boardwalk behind the Ventnor Library on Newport Ave.

Hats off to Ventnor Special Events crew lead by Donna Peterson. Each year gets better and better.

Long lines for the food trucks, many selling out of their tasty treats.

One of favorites, Mad Dog Morgans, was busy serving up their specialties.

The stars were in alignment.

A long 4th of July weekend, excellent weather, great band and spectacular fireworks off the Ventnor Fishing Pier.

Atlantic City will be rocking as the legendary Stray Cats take the OCEAN CASINO RESORT stage on Friday, August 16, 2024

The Stray Cats feature guitarist and vocalist Brian Setzer, upright bass player Lee Rocker and drummer Slim Jim Phantom.

Another sizable turnout on Tuesday morning. Concerned citizens gathered on the Atlantic City Boardwalk protesting a planned takeover of prime neighborhoods by Atlantic Shores Wind.

Presentations were made at the site where Atlantic Shores wants to beach and bury their high-voltage power lines. These cables would bring generated electricity from the planned 100+ offshore wind turbines.

Why are so few Atlantic City residents aware of this major land grab?

Contributing factors could include poor / slanted news coverage by corporate media companies.

ALSO: Wind companies handed out large amounts of cash over the past few years. Some call this ‘hush money’.

Speaker Steve Young was surprised by how many residents are being kept in the dark, still not aware of just how much disruption this will cause families in Atlantic City.

Black and Latino families will be especially hard hit by this disruptive neighborhood project.
