Hereby announcing a dark alliance with the ancient dungeon synth legend Gothmog - the dark atmospheric solo project of RAL from Depressive Silence and Mightiest.

This year it's been 25 years since the project's only release - the raw and epic dungeon synth classic 'Medieval Journeys'. Gondolin will be presenting a tape edition of it as part of the forthcoming winter releases with the original on the A-side, and newer interpretations by Lord Bakartia, Taagebue, Arthuros and A Spell Enraged on the B-side. Full overview of the winter releases will be announced shortly.

Here are the first of the 2nd Generation Gondolin Cards, which are currently shipping out with the Autumn tapes sold earlier. While only minor changes have been made to the look and layout, it is now a completely new collectable card game intended for tactical solo play. Each game takes place via a Story Card, which follows the founding of a settlement in a mythic land after the player has constructed a deck optimised for the story. If the settlement survives the full story, details are given on how to calculate a high score.

The complete 2G rules as well as the form to submit a high score will be available on the GC website later. More cards to come in 2024.

GON119: Valen - Of Kings And Destiny

Epic martial dungeon synth from South Carolina suitable for veteran warriors still yearning for the blood of ancient foes. There is no shortage of heavy chords and slow booming drums while a mysterious atmosphere permeate the ritualistic soundscapes, as we also encounter towering choirs, piano interludes and a serene ending as the worthy can finally rest in The Temple Of Eternities.

'Of Kings And Destiny' introduces Valen under the Gondolin banner, which is a solo project started in 2021 by Seregost of Obsidian Relic, who has been producing dungeon synth, soundtracks and "dark horror symphonies" for +10 years. This release comes with a tough remastered sound and features three lofi demo tracks as bonus. The full release audio is now available on the Gondolin YouTube channel (links in the comments).

GON118: Umbría - Homecomer

Bold high fantasy dungeon synth from Spain. Sanguine melodies and enchanting compositions are blended with contemplative passages and archaic ambience, showcasing the artist's classical training and keen involvement with dungeon synth over the last five years.

'Homecomer' is Umbría's fourth album following Farwalker (GON035), The Sleeping Wizard (GON062) and The Entombed Wizard (GON096). GON117: An Old Sad Ghost - A Letter For Carmilla Part IV: Medieval

The journey continues through the halls of An Old Sad Ghost, who has been crafting his tormented sculptures in the dungeons since 2016. On this intriguing fourth chapter in the Carmilla heptalogy from late 2017, dark depressive dungeon synth meets lofi medievalist melancholia. Moments of quiet despondency in the castle garden is disturbed by the war drums of unknown forces making their way through the surroundings until "The Golden Knight" appears for an epic conclusion.

GON116: Erang - Tome IV

Time to conclude the release of the Tome quadrilogy with ancient revival dungeon synth from 2012-2013 by the French lore master. In this fourth volume, playful and wistful melodies merge with brooding atmospheres as Erang carries us through 13 melancholy fantasy soundscapes including the neoclassical requiem "Temple Of Elemental Evil" and the powerful closing track "Within The Land Of My Imagination I Am The Only God".

Announcing that the old Finnish dungeon synth project Talvi has been welcomed to Gondolin. It was hinted at earlier this year, but is due for a proper announcement. A tape release is aptly scheduled for this winter, with material dating back to 1997. More details later. For now some useful links are added in the comments.

Grand neoclassical dungeon synth from Germany. 1st tape in 50 copies, 2nd edition in 100 copies, 2020. This was the first of four full-lengths released so far by the project: Über Den Sieben Bergen (GON016, 2018), Ik Gihorta Dat Seggen (GON061, 2020) and Eislandsaga (GON088, 2022). Besides the collaboration with Gondolin, splits, EPs, a compilation and CDs were also released on Celtic Wraith, Wulfrune, Dungeons Deep Records, Ancient Meadow Records, Naturmacht Productions and Dark Age Productions.

GON009: Moth Tower - Sharpen Thy Knife, Curse The Sky
Inventive, dark and melancholy dungeon synth from Denmark. 1st tape in 50 copies, 2nd edition tape 150 copies in 2019 followed by the LP in 200 copies, 2021. Releasing it was one of the main reasons this label was started. It released to instant acclaim and is by now a modern classic of the genre. It was followed by Clavitasian Threshold (GON036, 2019) and Void Receiver (GON100, 2022).

GON010: Kenosis - Book One
Lighter and darker medievalist dungeon moods from Greece entirely performed by the artist on flutes and other woodwind instruments. 1st tape in 30 copies, 2nd edition in 100 copies, 2019. Uploaded by the artist in early 2018 and added to The Dungeon Synth Archives in 2019. While a sequel hasn't so far appeared, the artist released the album 'Mysterium Tremendum Et Fascinans' as Eikona in 2019 (GON029).

GON011: Örnatorpet - Blodbad Och Efterspel
Epic medievalist dungeon synth from Sweden. 1st tape in 50 copies, 2nd edition in 150 copies, 2020. The first album release of this prolific project, which is now releasing regularly on Nordvis. The artist has also released numerous intriguing projects on various labels over the years. In 2020 the eponymous release of the sylvan side project Mystiska Skogen (GON049) and in 2021 the follow-up Den Förtrollade Gläntan (GON071). More news about Mystiska Skogen soon.

GON115: Baddoar - Fallen King & Wandering Knight

Solitary melancholy dungeon synth from the French artist, who is also behind the renowned dungeon drone project Wydraddear (GON092). Both projects are achieving impressive atmospheres with a minimalist approach, relying on slow introspective compositions played with finely tuned timbres in haunting soundscapes.

With Baddoar the emphasis is on lighter medievalist melodies to convey archaic visions and passages through a forgotten landscape. "Fallen King & Wandering Knight" collects the two first demos of the project into a full-length, and will be available on the Gondolin Bandcamp page as limited edition pro-tape in preorder with other releases by Nest, Losgann and An Old Sad Ghost on August 29th at 2200 CEST.

GON114: An Old Sad Ghost - Blood Moon Sonata

Dark neoclassic dungeon synth for candlelit nights when the red moon rises. The romantic spirit is allowed to roam, as Lord Sargeburt conjures black ambient sounds, thundering orchestral darkwave, tormented vocals and quiet poetic piano music with his customary imaginative fervour.

'Blood Moon Sonata' was recorded and presented digitally last year. This tape release contains the three tracks from the eponymous digital release on the A-side, and the astounding ~12-mins single track "A Law" on the B-side. GON113: Losgann - Lakespell

Solemn mystical dungeon synth from an anonymous Californian solo artist, who has been releasing under numerous prolific projects in the scene since around 2016. With Losgann an introspective melancholy expression is developed through hypnotic compositions to form impactful moods and atmospheres from a subdued dreamworld. The project takes its name from the Gaelic word for frog, and alludes to the animal's symbolism in Celtic mythology.

'Lakespell' was recorded in 2021, and is so far the only album from this project, but also the third project, that the artist is releasing on Gondolin. It will be available on the Gondolin Bandcamp page as a limited edition pro-tape in preorder with other releases by Nest, An Old Sad Ghost and Baddoar on August 29th at 2200 CEST.

GON112: Nest - Fabled Lore & Hidden Stream

Atmospheric dark folk and synth music from the Finnish project Nest. Started in 1999, and from the onset focused on a sparse but enchanting expression centred around the melancholic sounds of the kantele, electronic soundscapes and themes of nature and loss.

This release presents the two demos from 2000 and 2001 for the first time on tape, and includes the song 'Last Vestige Of Old Joy' with members of Agalloch as a bonus track. (Link in comments)

It is the first of four tape releases, where Gondolin is proud to be bringing the Nest studio discography out on the format. The artwork includes lyrics for the songs and drawings made by the artist to accompany the music.

Grev Trold will be performing live on Aug 25th during Alter festival.

The concert will take place at the Møntmestergaarden historical building in Aarhus, DK. Also performing there the same evening is medieval folk music legend Frode Veddinge, who released his debut record in 1965.

Grev Trold's howling dungeon black metal debut album 'Offerbugten' was released earlier this year on the Gondolin sublabel Galvorn Records. Grev Trold is also behind Henbane (GON001, 012, 039, 098, V01) and Seiðr (GAL001).

Dark monumental dungeon synth from Russia. 1st tape limited to 30 copies, 2nd edition in 100 copies, 2019. Uploaded on The Dungeon Synth Archives in 2019. In 2020 the follow up 'Towering Above The Gods' was released (GON059).

GON007: Mausolei - Anonymität
Mesmerising dungeon drone from Arizona. 1st tape limited to 50 copies. 2nd edition in 100 copies, 2019. Uploaded on the artist Bandcamp in March 2017. The artist also released several strong dungeon drone albums in a short time span on other labels like Moonworshipper Records, canto críptico and Heimat der Katastrophe.

GONV01: Henbane "Live at Mayhem MMXVIII" - Mystical melancholy lofi dungeon synth handplayed at the first ever Danish dungeon synth show in 2018. The release also features additional Henbane live video from a 2019 show and previously unpublicised documentation of the performance at Hald Castle Ruin in 2020.

GONV02: Depressive Silence "Live in Freiburg MMXIX" - The first ever live show of this legendary 90s German dungeon synth project in their old home town. Full multi-camera recording of the show with dubbed audio. Additionally, the short feature 'A Brief History Of Depressive Silence' only available on this VHS release.

GONV03: Malfet "Live at Northeast Dungeon Siege MMXXI" - Enthralling pastoral dungeon synth from California by one of the most prolific live acts of the American scene. Live production recorded in natural surroundings and streamed at the 2021 online edition of NEDS. Additionally two Malfet music videos and a part of a live rehearsal for NEDS 2020. Released in collaboration with Northeast Dungeon Siege.

These video tapes are a physical manifestation of some noteworthy dungeon synth live performances, and an immersive analogue viewing experience highly suitable for audiovisual dungeon synth. All three are limited edition pro-VHS releases hand-numbered in black Amaray VHS cases. The video format is NTSC, which is also supported by most PAL VCRs.

A very good and busy weekend at Dark Dungeon Festival in Belgium is over. Only managed to catch three shows properly, which all turned out to be brilliant. Congratulations to An Old Sad Ghost with the successful first ever stage appearance, and to the organisers with the successful first ever major European dungeon synth event. Hopefully, see you next year.

GON111: Criptadel - Brutal Imperium

Glorious martial dungeon synth from Argentina. Criptadel is making an immense return after two previous full-lengths were unleashed in 2019 and 2020. This project always had a dramaturgic streak and some of the heaviest rhythms in the dungeon, but everything has been strengthened, and more influence from classic dungeon synth traditions have been allowed into the Criptadel empire. Brought together by triumphant melodies and feral vocals, this is an exuberant tour de force in contemporary dungeon synth.

This tape features two illustrations by Silvana Massa. It was recently released at Northeast Dungeon Siege with other tape releases by Ingvarr, Nahadoth, Erang, An Old Sad Ghost, Henbane, Depressive Silence and Malfet, which will be available on the Gondolin Bandcamp page: Apr 19th, 2200 CET.

They will also be available this weekend at Dark Dungeon Festival, where 'Brutal Imperium' can be purchased together with some long lost artist copies of the two previous albums.

GON110: An Old Sad Ghost - Totentänze Akt I: Les Fleurs du Mal & Erlweihe

Trance-inducing melancholy dungeon synth from the Austrian champion of brooding neoclassic moods. Introducing a new series of 'death dances' to present selections from the extraordinary hoard of singles and EPs, that have accumulated in the Lord Sargeburt discography over the years.

'Les Fleurs du Mal' published digitally in Spring 2019 with dreamy and forlorn atmospheres. 'Erlweihe' from Summer 2019 with hypnotic darkwave-oriented dungeon synth. Both now featured on a physical release for the first time. GON109: Erang - Tome III

Nostalgic sanguine dungeon synth from the French loremaster, who has been working in the shadows for over a decade now. The first four albums of the project form the Tome-quadrilogy, which Gondolin is presenting one by one on solo tape releases for the first time. This third part has recently passed it's 10th year since digital publication, and displays the timeless qualities of Erang's music fully with some of the most memorable compositions in the quadrilogy, tenacious fantasy atmospheres and yearning medievalist reveries.

GON108: Nahadoth - Faces Of Winter Redux

Spellbinding melancholic dungeon synth from the musical mind of Adam Matlock, a prolific New England-based veteran of the revival era, who has also previously joined under the Gondolin banner as Counqueror's Mourn (GON024). Working under a nebulous amount of pseudonyms since 2015, Nahadoth was the main project to receive admiration on the early scene thanks to the 'Faces Of Winter' album made public in early 2016.

A haunting unpredictable album, which revels in both murky atmospheres and intimate neoclassical compositions. It has been available physically on a small DIY tape/CDr edition made by the artist, which included a printed shortstory to accompany the music, but has since then been living an unjustly quiet existence in the Matlock discography.

On this reissue, the original album is presented on the A-side while the B-side features 9 tracks of which many are previously unreleased. 5 Nahadoth tracks from the same period as well as early cover versions of inspirations and contemporaries (Enya, Voormithadreth, Apothecarium and Erang). This pro-tape release also features the aforementioned shortstory on a mini-pamphlet fitting inside the case.

GON107: Ingvarr - A Dire Prediction

Forceful neoclassical dungeon synth from Italy. Ingvarr returns to Gondolin to deliver 'A Dire Prediction' of woe and hardship. Following up on the 'The Hopeless Resistance... ' (GON074) from 2021, the dramatic orchestral elements have been enhanced, and the strong atmospheres have been embellished further with melancholy melodies to create an epic tale of things to come. Behind Ingvarr stands a duo who also collaborates on the two black metal projects Morwinyon and Falaise.

An important gathering for many of the people who contribute to dungeon synth, and a nice opportunity to meet some long time customers in person. The packed 3-day line up featured many excellent performances - more than I was able to take a decent photo of. Respect and infinite gratitude to the organisers for their hard work and hospitality.

No rest for the wicked as preparations are now underway for Dark Dungeon Festival in Belgium, which is just around the corner.

Tomorrow the doors open to Northeast Dungeon Siege MMXXIII in Massachusetts. Three days of dungeon synth live shows, which will also be live streamed. This year Gondolin will be present and releasing some tapes physically at this event.

The lineup has several artists with releases on Gondolin: Arcana Liturgia, Black Epheria (aka Conqueror's Mourn and Nahadoth), Blood Tower, Diplodocus (aka Witchsteel), Keys To Oneiria, Malfet and Vaelastrasz. Full lineup via Northeast Dungeon Siege.

Copies have been brought over for new tapes to be released at the Gondolin table tomorrow. 3 of them are VHS tapes. More copies will also be available later at Dark Dungeon Festival in Belgium and finally on Bandcamp Apr 19th.

Some people have asked about a Gondolin Cards event during the Saturday workshops. The 2nd generation of the cards are still in development, so an introduction does not make sense at the moment. If you bring a deck, drop by on Friday to arrange a game on Saturday. Printed rules and missing cards can be burrowed upon request.

Postcards From Beleriand. New promo items calling attention to sightseeing highlights in the land of Beleriand as it lays in the time of the Gondolindrim. Postcards 1-3 showing the Ered Luin (Blue Mountains), that form the eastern border to Eriador. These will be on the Gondolin tables at the Spring festivals and added to subsequent online orders.
