Posting, a bit late in the day perhaps, this selection of poems from Mother/Wound by Sayuri Ayers. For all mothers and their children, but especially for those who’ve had difficult pregnancies and childbirth, who have experienced perinatal and post partum depression. Parenthood can be both beautiful and difficult, filled sometimes with trauma to the body and to the spirit. But it’s possible, too, to trust that love prevails.

is a good time to share again this poem by Paula J. Lambert for The Furcula Project. Broadsides still available and 100% of proceeds still benefit The Malala Project.

Anatomy of Birds, Part 1: Furcula

The work of soaring is arduous,
requires more than muscle alone,
requires the delicate architecture
of mostly hollow bone. The fused
and forked clavicle of a bird—
we call it the wishbone—
allows her to bear the rigors of flight,
stretching and then recoiling
with each powerful wingbeat. (Can
you hear it? The fiercely whispered
whoosh slicing air?) Downstroke
and release. Let’s call it resilience,
what pushes the songbird forward,
what propels the hawk! Oh, let’s
remember this living bone can flex!

Congratulations to the Ohio Poetry Association on this terrific launch reading for the new Sun & Moon Poetry Festival anthology Eclipsing the Dark! So glad to see so many familiar faces here, and to hear such terrific work. So many memories, too. Wonderful. Publishing this anthology and holding this virtual public reading has been a really marvelous "place holder" for getting together again, when it's safe for us all to do so, to celebrate the next festival. Thanks for all you do, OPA!!!

Full/Crescent Press has been honored to bring these beautiful chapbooks by Sayuri Ayers and Jason Kaufman into publication; their work is truly exquisite, and the poems we’ve selected for Pushcart Prize nomination especially so. We’re honored to announce “Sweet Violet” from Sayuri’s collection Mother/Wound, and “Something that Shines,” from Jason’s A Song Greater than I Am, have both been nominated for this year’s prize.

Our Story

Full/Crescent Press, founded in 2012, is a small press publisher of poetry books and broadsides. We publish when we can, on no set schedule, when we find work we believe needs to make its way into the world. We are not currently open to submissions. We solicit the poets we hope to publish, and we find those poets by reading widely and attending as many open mic, featured-reader, and performance poetry shows as we can. We follow through on all things as time, money, health, and general life pursuits allow. We believe in art, artists, kindness, and community. We believe the world is a good place. We believe in trying to make it even better. We look forward to having you follow us on our website, fullcrescent.com, on Twitter @fullcrespress as well as here on Facebook.
