In the late eighteenth and early 19th centuries North America's megafauna faced a dramatic collapse due to outright slaughter and habitat loss But thanks to dedicated conservation efforts many of these iconic species have made remarkable comebacks Elk once roamed the plains in vast numbers and today their populations are thriving again Bison nearly driven to extinction now graze in large herds across protected areas Moose and mule deer have rebounded in the mountain west while white-tailed deer are flourishing in forests across the continent Even great white sharks crucial to marine ecosystems are making a return to waters in the Atlantic and Gulf coasts These animals are a testament to nature's resilience and the power of conservation The fight for their future is far from over but America's megafauna are back baby!
