Our film for today's is Trading Places (1983)!

A snobbish investor and a wily street con artist find their positions reversed as part of a bet by two callous millionaires.

The original title was "Black and White". In 2010, as part of the Wall Street Transparency and Accountability Act, which was to regulate financial markets, a rule was included which barred anyone from using secret inside information to corner markets, similar to what the Duke brothers tried to do in the movie. Since the movie inspired this rule, it has since become known as the Eddie Murphy Rule.

A tribute to Freddy on his birthday! Today's is A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).

Teenager Nancy Thompson must uncover the dark truth concealed by her parents after she and her friends become targets of the spirit of a serial killer with a bladed glove in their dreams, in which if they die, it kills them in real life.

The inspiration for the character of Freddy came from several sources in Wes Craven's childhood. Fred Krueger was a schoolmate of his, with whom he had shared a paper route and who had bullied him for several years. Krueger was designed to be the typical "silent" serial killer, however, in the sequels, Freddy developed a cheeky persona that enabled him to be the black-humored villain. It would take about three hours to get Robert Englund into his Freddy make-up.

Robert De Niro claims this was his most physically exhausting film. Jan Scruggs, a Vietnam veteran who became a counselor with the U.S. Department of Labor, thought of the idea of building a National Memorial for Vietnam Veterans after seeing a screening of the film in spring 1979, and he established and operated the memorial fund that paid for it.

Stanley Kubrick considered Robert De Niro and Robin Williams for the role of Jack Torrance, but decided against De Niro after watching his performance in Taxi Driver, deeming him not psychotic enough for the role, and against Williams after watching his performance on Mork & Mindy and deeming him too psychotic. Kubrick decided that having the hedge animals come alive (as they do in the book) was unworkable, due to restrictions in special effects, so he opted for a "snowy" hedge maze instead, which consisted of nine hundred tons of salt and crushed Styrofoam.

Two American college students on a walking tour of Britain are attacked by a werewolf that none of the locals will admit exists.

John Landis wrote the screenplay for this film following an incident while shooting another movie in the countryside of Yugoslavia. While driving along a country road with a colleague, Landis encountered a funeral. The body was being buried in a massively deep grave, feet first, while wrapped in garlic, so he would not rise from the dead.

All the songs in this film have the word "moon" in their titles.

A satire of the true crime genre, references to serial killers appear throughout the film, including a Christmas card hand-painted by John Wayne Gacy. John Waters has said that this is his favorite of all the movies that he made in his career.

After being held captive in an Afghan cave, billionaire engineer Tony Stark creates a unique weaponized suit of armor to fight evil.

Stan Lee, the creator of Iron Man, had originally based Tony Stark on Howard Hughes, who he felt was "one of the most colorful men of our time: an inventor, an adventurer, a multimillionaire, a ladies man, and finally, a nutcase." Robert Downey Jr. further described his portrayal of Stark as "a challenge of making a wealthy, establishmentarian, weapons-manufacturing, hard-drinking, womanizing prick, into a character who is likeable, and a hero."

The Trumania bit, where Truman draws on the mirror with soap and acts strange, was completely improvised by Jim Carrey. In another take, he drew long curly hair and a dress.

The title is a play on a popular Disney song of the time, Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? Disney would not give rights to the song so characters in the movie sing to the tune of Do You Know the Muffin Man? instead.

George Lucas was so sure this movie would flop that instead of attending the premiere, he went on vacation to Hawaii with his good friend Steven Spielberg, where they came up with the idea for Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) after they found out Star Wars became a success.
