To close the year, we're thrilled to share this write-up on Awen Films in this week's Internazionale!

The article gives an overview of our projects from our first short doc, Treasure - The Story of Marcus Hook, to our first feature, If Only I Were That Warrior, and our latest, Stonebreakers. As we gear up for more screenings of Stonebreakers in the new year in Italy (don’t miss our new film series: Rovine d'America - rassegna cinematografica), the US, the UK, and France, we're grateful to Alessio Marchionna for taking us on this journey down memory lane, and for emphasizing the importance of examining the history of US social movements from an international perspective.

The piece also highlights our short doc on the Triangle Fire Memorial recently inaugurated in NYC by Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition, a project we were honored to produce in collaboration with NYU Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò, and other important collaborations we've had with Centro Primo Levi, Luca Peretti, Curtis John, and Andrea Fuma.

Al via il nuovo tour italiano di Stonebreakers! 🛫

Nel corso di novembre porteremo il film in varie città, attraversando cinema, scuole e spazi sociali. Gran parte delle proiezioni saranno accompagnate da una discussione in sala con il regista Valerio Ciriaci, il produttore/DoP Isaak Johnson Liptzin e ospiti speciali, per parlare di monumenti abbattuti, memoria storica e politica USA a un anno dalle prossime elezione presidenziali. 🗽

One year on the festival circuit for Stonebreakers! 💫

Thanks to the Workers Unite! Film Festival for showcasing Stonebreakers in our hometown of NYC last Friday. Next up: Documentaria in Noto, Sicily, where the film will screen in the 'Visioni del mondo' section.

As our festival run nears its end, we want to express our appreciation to all programmers, staff members, and audiences for their continued support and engagement throughout a truly memorable year.

We're honored to participate in this timely event at the intersection of activism, academics, and filmmaking. The struggles of workers are central to the protest movement documented in the film and to the question of which symbols we ought to elevate in our public squares. And, in the words of Joseph Sciorra, we welcome once again the opportunity to ask why—in a city like New York—many Italian Americans rally under the symbol of Christopher Columbus rather than commemorating the labor agitation that was so important for the community in its early years of economic exploitation and discrimination. Pete Panto, Angela Bambace, and Carlo Tresca are just some of the names that remain unmarked in the streets of NYC. In the 2020 uprisings and in ongoing labor unrest we witness an opportunity to start reclaiming a collective memory around these legacies.

We're thrilled to share that Stonebreakers will make its Virginia premiere next week as part of the official selection of Richmond International Film Festival, at the iconic Byrd Theater!

Wed. September 27 | 6:15pm | Byrd Theater

This showing holds a special importance because Richmond is one of the main locations in Stonebreakers. During filming, we documented the work of activists confronting the oppressive legacies of Confederate monuments, and preserving neglected sites of memory like the African Burial Ground in Shockoe Bottom and the Manchester Slave Docks.

The filmmakers will be joined by special guests for an in-person Q&A after the screening.

We're delighted to announce that Stonebreakers will screen at the second edition of Filmteenth International Film Festival! It's an honor to have the film shown upon the recurrence Juneteenth, the day in which we commemorate the liberation of Black people from slavery in the USA, and to participate in this new and exciting festival.

📍 If you're in the greater DC area, you can catch the film at Landmark Bethesda Row on June 19th at 12pm.
