Authentic, edgy, unpredictable and fiercely independent yet professional and respectful to the culture of dance music.

'Sporadic, wild and free he has never been one to be tamed, placed in a box and told how to play. From his youthful days spent painting the mean streets of London through to his acid laden take on old school club music he has amassed a reputation as one of the best in Britain' (Ransom Note 2018)

Apologies for another boring video of some idiot DJ 😂. This thing we do is not about the DJ. Without all the dancers and music producers, there would be nothing. It's a communal experience.

Last Saturday at McChuills was very special. Three generations of ravers under the arches.

I played the techno anthem 'Positive Education' by Glasgow heroes Slam. Many of the older people obviously knew the track, but many of the younger dancers didn't know it and were hearing it for the first time. It was such a buzz to watch the Gen Zs and Millenials raving hard to it! What a timeless classic - positive education indeed!

Shouts to the Glasga bhoys Paul Crainie, James Fyffe, Brother Joseph, the Do!! You!!! Glasgow crew and everyone who made the journey up.

McChuills Glasgow. Feb 1st.

We’re absolutely buzzing to announce that the immense Richard Sen is coming back to McChuills. His debut appearance back in May was easily one of the highlights of the whole year here, so getting him back up was an open goal.

His sound draws from 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s influences and places them firmly in the present, with a genre-fluid selection seamlessly flowing back and forth between retro and future, dark and light, disco, Italo, wonky house, electro, breakbeat and deep techno.

As well as DJing, Richard has released music under the guises of Bronx Dogs (1997-2003) and Padded Cell (2005-2012), as well as remixing ever tune from Bryan Ferry and John Grant to Unloved (David Holmes’ band) and LCD Soundsystem.

Support on the night comes from the wonderful Brother Joseph (Manifesto of Bliss) & Gordon Stewart (Electric Eliminators) so get down early. This will 100% sell out and fast btw. Don’t sleep on it.

Rest In Peace J. Saul Kane (Grimm Death, Depth Charge, Octagon Man, Alexander's Dark Band).

Criminally underrated, Jonathan is widely known as one of the greatest electronic music producers in the UK. A real pioneer whose music encapsulated elements of hip-hop, beats and breaks, electro, f**ked-up disco, rave, and techno. His first Depth Charge single can be considered a proto-jungle classic, played on 45rpm by Fabio and Grooverider and many others from the rave scene. His music influenced many producers, including Aphex Twin, Weatherall and the Chemical Brothers.

I felt really sad when I heard the news of his passing. I first saw Jonathan DJing as Grimm Death at various warehouse parties around London in 1987. His music and sound was a big influence on me and in 2005, we (Padded Cell) signed to his label DC Recordings who were on par with Warp and Ninja Tunes but cooler with more attitude. I remember Jon telling me that back in 1990/91, he had had a meeting with Aphex Twin and was planning to release his first single, but it never happened in the end.

Alongside James Dyer (RIP), Jon was hugely influential in shaping the sound of Padded Cell, especially our album. He was highly critical but could back it up with his knowledge and experience. His obsessive, perfectionist nature meant that he could be difficult, but often, he was right. We even had a meeting about a snare drum sound on one of our tracks!

Jonathan was uncompromising, both in music and as a person. He was very anti drugs. There's a story about him DJing at a warehouse in Germany. He came on after some banging techno bod and played a speech about someone having a heart attack, to a room full of drugged up ravers. He cleared the floor and everyone left. 😂

A unique individual and music producer who remained mysterious and enigmatic up until the end. J. Saul Kane's music lives on.

The idea of the Moksha track (from my India Man LP) came from a remix I was doing for my late friend (and former Bronx Dog), DJ Regal. His original track had a lot of live saxophone played on it, which I used to create an alternative version. Because the remix was such a different vibe from his original, Regal thought that I should use it as my own track. In Hindu traditions, moksha is a central concept and means to free, let go, release, liberate. It refers to freedom from saṃsāra, the cycle of death and rebirth. I thought it would make a good name for the track as my version had been set free from the original intention.
