Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Inspiration

Salt is a wonderful additive to food, especially if it's freshly ground sea salt. But let it set on a shelf or in a shaker for too long and it becomes clumpy and tasteless. You might as well be shaking air on your food. It does nothing for a salad or a stead. It is useless because it's lost its flavor. The only use for it is to throw it on the walkway to melt the ice in the winter. Jesus tells us in Matthew that we are like salt. In this passage, He talks about useless salt, salt that has lost its flavor. If we are the salt of the world, and we lose our flavor, then we become useless. We cannot improve anyone's situation. We can't properly minister to others because we have nothing to say. We are as useless as the salt that people use on the ground in the winter time. We aren't fulfilling our purpose. We must strive to ensure that we don't lose our "saltiness." We must read and study and spend time in prayer so that when the time comes when someone needs our salt, we will be ready.

Prayer 🙏

Father, Help me maintain my "flavor". I never want to be useless to You. I want to be an asset to You. Show me how to maintain my "saltiness" so that I may be useful to the building of Your kingdom. Amen.

INSPIRATION

God despises a haughty spirit. He would rather us be humble and gracious in all dealings. In our humbleness, God is able to lift us up. We don't have to go around singing our own praises. We should not seek our own glory. So what if we labor for years and years with no recognition from the world. If we will go about God's business in humility, He will make sure that our praises are sung by others. Our humbleness inspires God to be our Champion, usually when we least expect it.

PRAYER 🙏

Father, Help me to be humble in all my ways. Let me not be arrogant and full of myself, but let serve You in humility. I trust that You will raise me up according to Your will and exalt me according to Your timeline. Amen.

Thank you for being a wonderful guide for me in all of my relationships, knowing full well how to act to any person that I come in contact with in any situation. I come before You in prayer, asking that You will help me to be similar to You as a parent, spouse, friend, colleague, and even as a stranger. I pray that I can positively affect everyone and everything around me, as You most certainly have. Amen.

A farmer works all summer, and it's hot. In harvest time, he is bringing in his food from the field, but sometimes it's still hot. Hopefully though, it's cooling down, and maybe it will even snow. This is a relief to a farmer after a long summer. They're whole body relaxes. Similarly, a messenger who is faithful to deliver a master's message well is a relief and refreshment to him. We believers of Jesus are all messengers of the gospel. Be like the faithful messenger, and relay the gospel well.

Heavenly Father, I want to be a faithful and good representation of Your gospel. Help me to follow You, love You, and speak of You well. I want others to come to You because I spoke Your message, the gospel, rightly. Give me the words to speak when I flounder for words, which is often. When I am speechless, speak through me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
