You would think that in 2023, a wide release film would portray the homosexuality of a world renowned artist, as more than flamboyance, drugs, and shame. Bradley Cooper’s Maestro is beautiful to look at. The music, the performances, and even the words, are brilliant. Carey Mulligan is the greater actor actor of the piece, which is why I won’t lock Cooper for the Oscar win.

It is insulting that an art form that has been built by many homosexuals over its century plus history, would do better at balancing out the struggles of homosexuality, with the beauty, joy, and sensuality of our love.

Maestro is a brilliant film, deserving of many awards. It, unfortunately, highlights the fact that Hollywood still treats man to man relationships, as dirty secrets. And that true love is truer when it is between man and woman.

I wait for the great film, of great gay love, that is not a tragedy.

I finally started doing the work to be entertainment producer 10 years ago, 2013. At the end of 2017, when I experienced final cut for my first film, I became. From that moment on, there was no stopping forward to the first feature film. Which will be “Burn The Woods”, a high octane action thriller. I write it, to be the biggest Canadian Film blockbuster ever. Am I delusional? Maybe. Will I make it happen? Absolutely.

A screenshot from our morning FaceTime read through of FALL AWAKE. We have an ambitious week of filming ahead of us. A couple of more edits to go before script lock. The words matter so. And a dark comedy requires precise words to land those laughs, and incite those tears, while remaining respectful to such heavy subject matter. The responsibility to which is top of mind to us. Su***de rates have steeply risen during the pandemic. That is why this is the story I wrote. It is dark. It is hopefull. It is funny. It is truth. It is personal. It is a dream to be in production with this story. To have an opportunity to say something about this moment that so many contemplate. To show the humanity of it. To explore the reason of choice. Santiago Bessai (DOP) and Allisha Pelletier (Actor) agreed to go on this film journey with me with only a premise of the story and no script. So it took me awhile to get one to them. Because what I originally had, was not enough to validate their trust in me. The pages didn’t get to the ending I wanted. I had to intensely push my self to rewrite. Both of their talents my motivation. And our window of time to film has been shrinking daily. Today I sent them script. They each called immediately after reading. Glowing with passion for the project. They see it and will make it better with their involvement. I’m shaking with excitement. I know that with each being as passionate over the story we are telling as I am, we now have a golden opportunity to create a great film. This feeling is amazing. To film my second film with this level of talent, from humans I fully trust, WOW! I had this with HEIR, I can’t believe I’m getting it twice! This time I know better what I’m doing. Not much better, but better. Forward March!

Production has begun on my second film!

FALL AWAKE is a dark comedy short about two pandemic depressed souls who meet on a cityscape roof to jump together.

I am ecstatic to journey through this project with the brilliant talent of Santiago Bessai as Director Of Photography. Santiago’s availability within the next few weeks is the reason I wrote FALL AWAKE. We met ten days ago. He said he was down to film. I wrote a script that requires minimal budget. And BOOM we begin filming next week!

From the moment Santiago was a go to film, only one actor popped into my mind to write for. I am honoured that Allisha Pelletier has agreed to take this journey with us. We met in an acting class years ago. I have dreamed of directing her immensely ranged talent for awhile now. So much is coming to beautiful fruition.

I have also cast myself alongside Allisha. This is the biggest risk I’m taking with this second film. To be in it as well as write, direct, and produce. If I had not had been working on monologues for the last three months, there is no way that I would have written for me. Because of that work, I think I can pull it off. Plus I’ve written a character that will be just me playing me.

Obviously there will be many posts to come while we film FALL AWAKE during the next three weeks. I feel super blessed to finish this year of my life with this project. Film excites me. I loved living in production for HEIR. To have another opportunity is a dream! Forward March.
