🪩 NOT JUST A (DNB) DJ
This weekend I collectively performed for 10hrs and played 0 dnb. Friday, I explored every corner of oldschool hip hop and r’n’b, and last night I went on an epic adventure through the depths of my usbs and played out all the funk and disco I wondered if anyone else wanted to hear - they did.
Last night I realised that I am really not just a drum n bass DJ. I’m not even just a drum n bass producer. It is what I love the most - it is what inspires me the most, but my whole life spent listening to such a vast array of music has lead me to be the drum n bass artist that I am. If you told angsty artsy 17yo Jess that made it a part of her life to expose herself to everything there is to be heard - that she would eventually only perform 1 genre live, she would scoff at you and tell you that you’re wrong. Being my authentic self is exploring and learning everything while specialising in my favourites and that’s precisely what I am doing.
I think for the future I am going to actively pursue bookings where I get to explore more parts of my musical interest, no matter which genre.

I’ve been waiting for this one for many years!! 🥹
I was booked to play at the last one before bushfires took hold and everything got cancelled. Back then, I was a different artist, and I hadn’t even started producing! I’m going to incorporate a few songs I had planned from that original set into my new developed sound and productions. Definitely feeling proud that my booking was honoured & I will get to play at Subsonic after all, as the new (and improved!) act that I am!

It’s Tuesday and I am already hanging for the dancefloor.

You’ve probably noticed that I haven’t been putting on as many gigs on through as before I went to the UK. I have decided to take it easy on this front as my solo bookings have become very demanding and I just don’t have it in me to provide quality in my own solo ventures while organising events at the rate I have in the past.. Some would say that was far too much anyway 😅 (32 events in 1 year)

The last few months I have enjoyed the ability to perform and then immediately let go; enjoying the dancefloor for what it is rather than something to monitor and tend to. I was never afforded this freedom when I was promoting all the time. Promoting is an awesome experience but also can be very lonely and tiring. But dancing is dancing. The dancefloor is why I am what I am. Reclaiming this past time has been one of the most important things to happen to me lately!

The last party has been announced and it’s been nice to put effort into that alone. I hope to see you on Jan 12th for Intrigue, it’s going to be special. It’s my last Sydney show! Come dance, and please make me dance too!!!

Music changes for you when you DJ, and then it changes again when you produce.

Dragon Dreaming Festival 2023 🐉
It’s just over a year ago that this exact festival changed my life. I left with an abundance of new wonderful friends, had so many new experiences that I didn’t know existed, and the fun I had, I couldn’t measure. Dragon is like an adults playground.
I was lucky to play a long format chill set for my beautiful friends in the Soul Shack (which people now cite as their favourite set of mine for the gym or housework - love it) last year and went on my merry way back to reality.
I had no idea the impact that would have, or that I would soon be welcomed back like THIS - playing the stage by the river, ‘Air’ in all its glory, modelled to look like Howl’s Moving Castle clouds, playing 1.5hrs of what I do best and love the most in the sunshine and breeze, sharing my zoomie/victory laps on the dancefloor during my last song, group hugging the entire crowd till I couldn’t breathe (one of the best moments of my life), the desert pixie stage manager Willow gifting me a heart shaped piece of wood that fell off the stage, receiving a Doof Secretaries award, and then passing the decks to the absolute legend Tonika 💖
Dragon Dreaming is the
best doof in Australia, hands down. I asked a friend what brought them to Dragon this year and their answer was ‘reality’ and I feel that. I am so overwhelmingly honoured to have taken part in such an important part of Aussie underground music culture.
My appreciation goes out to Cam Volkiene for booking me and all other organisers of Dragon Dreaming - thank you for your dedication, perseverance, and really.. for believing in me and making this gals dream come true.
I can’t wait to be back when I return to Australia, it’ll be at the top of my agenda, and it should be at the top of yours too!

It’s Saturday night - and you’ve been invited to play peak hour at a the most top secret and exclusive alien house parties - ‘Vapour’. The house is hypercolour and shiny, bustling with many long lost faces in the sea of costumes, like a big musical Marrickville social.
You mingle and then jump on the decks. You start throwing down. Your friend and one of the hosts, Dan, comes over to tell you that he wants to turn all the lasers off so it gets really dark and sexy, and you pull out the wompiest of womps. Halftime, footwork, jungle, neuro - and all things outer space.
This was an awesome way to end my extreme hectic 3 gig weekender.

Liquid Sydney went so well, I think Sydney deserves more liquid dnb events.

ugh i have been SO excited to announce this.. finally making my debut!!! 🥰

Many of you know me as sweet, jazzy, liquid jess, but when I started djing, it was by throwing down the heavier, darker side of dnb that quickly earnt me my stripes. Blending big powerful neuro with halftime & minimal on Instagram live feeds weekly, and eventually out on was actually the way I learnt to dj!

These days I do things very differently *BUT* I’m always over the moon when given the occasional opportunity to exercise my demons 😈😈
I’ll be pulling out the thrashers for this one. Be warned ❤️
