President Donald Trump’s order this week for federal employees to return to in-person work covers tens of thousands of personnel at Redstone Arsenal, though its daily impact might be relatively minimal.

An Office of Personnel Management memo dated Wednesday ordered all federal department and agency heads to revise their telework policies by 5 p.m. Friday.

Alabama’s senior senator says he is increasingly confident the new presidential administration will bring Space Command headquarters to Huntsville.

Space Command is charged with defending space and delivering space capabilities to joint and combined U.S. and allied forces. Locating the command in Huntsville would bring at least 1,600 new jobs, AL.com reported.

Home sales heated up as the holiday season wound down in the Huntsville area last month.

All but one of the counties in the area saw better sales in December than they did the previous year.

According to a report from Construction Coverage, new construction accounts for 25% of all home sales in the Huntsville metro, more than twice the national average.

A resolution introduced Monday in the House by Rep. Dale Strong, R-Huntsville, and in the Senate by Sens. Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville coincides with the fourth anniversary of the secretary of the Air Force announcing Redstone as the “preferred location” of Space Command’s headquarters.

It “strongly commends” Trump’s first administration “for completing a robust and fact-based Strategic Basing Action focused on what was best to ensure the national security and fiscal responsibility of the United States and well-being of service members and their families.“

Conversely, the resolution “strongly condemns” Biden “for disregarding the findings of the Strategic Basing Action and allowing the headquarters of the United States Space Command to be based at the fifth best location.”

Following South Star Music Festival’s 2024 debut, the inaugural Camellia Music & Arts Festival is set for April 25 – 27 at Orion Amphitheater.

While the two-day South Star boasted ‘90s-famed pop and rock artists, like Gwen Stefani, TLC and Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello, Camellia spotlights R&B and rap.

Camellia’s opening day on Friday is a free event highlighting local music.

The weather service said that temperatures didn’t fall quite as far as expected overnight.

Warming centers have been available throughout Huntsville for unsheltered individuals.

About 335 people took advantage of the warming centers overnight Thursday and another 144 people received services at First Stop warming center on Stokes Street.

By mid-day Friday, 325 were taking shelter at the Downtown Rescue Mission at 1400 Evangel Drive in northwest Huntsville.

And while so many were taking shelter there, volunteers were in short supply.

After nearly 20 years of service, Terranova's Huntsville restaurant will be closing its doors on Feb. 2, the owner recently announced.

Plans to open an Athens location at 100 Hwy 31, Suite J in late February are still moving forward.
