Spirit Social 2024 Guest Speaker Spotlight: Night Owl Team Member and my dear friend Alexis !

All you know him by now as our Occult Specialist and Spiritual Consultant, but we’re thrilled to have Alexis speaking and vending with his witch shop at the event this year.

Alexis A. Arredondo grew up on the border of South Texas, where he was enamored with folklore as well as spiritual folk-practice at a very young age. He began learning folk magic and traditional brujería (Mexican witchcraft) from a local bruja (witch) in his hometown. Through the influence of famous healers such as Don Pedrito Jaramillo, he began his journey in the sacred healing art of Curanderismo (Mexican folk-healing), and was fortunate enough to have teachers in this practice as well as in el culto de Santisima Muerte (the cult of the Holy Death). He has also initiated into several necromantic systems such as ta***ic Aghor Yoga, Brazilian Kimbanda and he is a Tata Nganga in the Congo-Cuban practice of Palo Mayombe. He is the co-owner of City Alchemist Witch Shop in downtown East Austin and spiritual consultant of the Night Owl True Ghost Stories Podcast. Through his experiences, he enjoys teaching others through his online school the Mictlan Academy.

The Paranormal Putas are Leah & Bethany, two hermanas who were born and raised on the East Side of Austin Texas. As fourth generation Mexican-Americans, they grew up listening to their father and his brothers telling them campfire tales that drove their curiosity of the paranormal. The Night Owl team gathered last night at one of the best, and longest standing pizza joints in ATX - ! (Not haunted sadly 😞 ) It was part business, part pleasure as we began our big event planning meetings for the upcoming Spirit Social on Oct 12th! But we also had a long, overdue catch-up filled with laughs, delicious deep dish pizza, and pinballs. Most of the team are picture here except our amazing Alexis () who had another obligation. New Episode Drops tonight at midnight (CDT)!

In this episode, the team will conclude their series of investigations at the haunted Hotel Havana in San Antonio, Texas. Previously, they gathered testimony from staff and met Kate the Brave, a resident psychic medium who works with the hotel. They learned about the reports of the burning man spirit in the basement, phantoms smells in the lobby, ghosts of children roaming the halls and rooms, shadow figures waking up guests, the spirit of a drag queen who may have resided in the hotel when it was said to be a safe-haven for that community, and most strongly felt by the psychic medium Kate was a weeping woman in the Penthouse suite on the third floor. In part two of this series, the team packed our bags and visited the hotel for a 2 night stay with their very own psychic friend, Jeffery, who was kept unaware of the location or its haunted reports. To the team’s surprise, Jeffery validated two key things in this case: the children on the second floor and, more shockingly, the weeping woman in the Penthouse suite. Uniting the two psychics, Kate and Jeffery, the team then explored the hotel and decided it was no coincidence this woman was seen by both psychics in the exact same room. Join Stephen, Jeffery and Kate now as they try to help an oppressed spirit by answering her cries for help.

Part II of this series drops tonight at Midnight (CDT)!

The Night Owl team is packing their bags and traveling to the haunted Hotel Havana in San Antonio, Texas. Built in 1914 and designed in the Mediterranean Revival Style popular in Cuba at the time, the legendary Hotel Havana is located on a quiet part of the San Antonio Riverwalk. In the previous episode we heard from several staff members, as well as a resident psychic/medium who works with the hotel to provide tours and psychic services. Through these interviews we discovered that the hotel has been experiencing unexplained phenomena since reopening its doors in 2010. We learned of the basement bar with the so-called burning man, or spirit on fire that frightened a housekeeper, phantom smells in the lobby, ghosts of children roaming the halls and rooms, shadow figures waking up guests, the spirit of a drag queen who may have resided in the hotel when it was said to be a safe-haven for that community, and most strongly felt by the psychic/medium Kate the Brave is a weeping woman in the penthouse suite on the third floor. Join us now as we travel to San Antoniol for a two-night stay at the Hotel Havana, where Stephen will be joined not only by the hotel’s resident psychic Kate the Brave, but also the team’s psychic friend, Jeffery, who has no idea where they’re taking him. Together, they’ll explore the haunted hallways and rooms of the hotel to see if they can validate any of the unexplained and eerie occurrences reported at Hotel Havana.

As a heads up Night Owls, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, I have taken a much needed break for mental and physical rejuvenation this May. I’ve also been nursing a pretty painful hip injury that has been stubborn and unwilling to cooperate with relentless physical therapy work. I’m still not 100% healed and struggling, so this month of recovery has been very important to me. With May’s rest and healing, there will not be an episode coming out this month. Episodes will resume on schedule in June. I’d also like to take a moment to thank my sponsors and agency Authentic for their support and respect of my need for breaks in this grueling work. Throughout history, hotels have been a common hotbed for reported paranormal activity. In most major cities, you’re bound to discover there is at least one well-known hotel in town rumored to be haunted. Texas alone is riddled with them. There’s the Historic Jefferson Hotel in Jefferson, Texas, Hotel Paisano in Marfa, the Magnolia in Seguin, Texas, and here in Austin, the notorious Driskill Hotel. But tonight, the Night Owl travels to San Antonio, Texas, where haunted hotels abound, including the Menger Hotel, The Black Swan Inn, the Sheraton Gunter, and the Emily Morgan. However, in tonight’s episode, we are called to a lesser known hotel with supposed spooky inhabitants. The Hotel Havana, located on the popular River Walk in San Antonio, Texas, has been experiencing unexplained phenomena since reopening its doors in 2010. There’s a basement bar with a so-called burning man, or spirit on fire that has been seen on multiple occasions, phantom smells in the lobby, ghosts of children roaming the halls and rooms, shadow figures waking up guests, and even a weeping woman heard in the Penthouse suite. The activity is so prevalent that the staff have enlisted the help of a resident psychic to gain insight and also provide readings and guided tours.
