Last year I was a grain farmer/entrepreneur, now I am living on my 28 foot vintage sailboat.
Luckily, one of Canada’s top restaurants and bakeries is right here in Canoe Cove Marina. .cafe is a favourite stop for everything from morning coffee and fresh baking and pastries to a romantic evening meal with Mary.
Headed there now for a butter tart. 🇨🇦IYKYK
Back to the ocean, and sailing, with Mary on the boat next week. Super excited to be back where we belong. Home.

Want to see something special? 🌲✨ This is an ancient Mountain Ash from my parent’s yard. I milled it up back at the farm two years ago and brought a few slabs with me to the sailboat. Now, I’ve transformed them into beloved fixtures. From the place where I bled, wept, toiled and laughed with friends, these pieces carry memories in their grain. Paper or Digital Navigation: ⛵️🌊 I’m curious about navigation when sailing. There are so many apps now for wind, currents, and actual chart plotting. Are paper charts completely obsolete? Does anyone out there still use paper?

What do you think of this boat? A 1965 Sparkman and Stephens design. Built in New Zealand with cold-molded Kauri Wood. A classic bluewater wood/fibreglass boat that is more than capable of making the journey to Scotland.
This boat will open up all kinds of opportunities for us. Anything from a Northwest Passage to “around the Horn” will be on the table in this boat. Just going to find a way to make it happen now. That’s all there is to it.

Eyes are the windows to our souls: I think not. My hands are covered in 57 years worth of scars, wounds, and calloused hardness.
They’ve been broken and repaired.
They are capable of giving the most loving caresses. They experience the most exquisite sensations. They ache for these moments.
At times my hands are numb, stinging with cold, but, mostly they stay warm and flexible.
They hammer things into their rightful place when brute force is necessary, and they produce works of art, delicate and precise.
My hands hold memories. They are an archive of my life lived. They are my window. You can look at them and see everything you wish to see.

Have you ever wanted to learn to sail? ⛵️🌊There is SO much to consider. I have extensive experience with boat handling. Years of guiding fishing charters in the Arctic and owning small power boats. That is one thing. But, the art of sailing combined with the nuances of sailing safely in coastal waters is way up there as far as challenging goes.
