Another classic session/interview is now online - American Primitive Guitar master and Thrill Jockey Records recording artist Glenn Jones visited CJLO - 1690AM back in 2016 and this is honestly one of my favourite interviews. It was an absolute pleasure to talk to him about his life and craft and we covered a lot of ground from grief, being a caregiver, his work with Jeff Fahey, and his interesting style of playing guitar with alternate tunings and partial capos.

Mark's music is more momentous now than ever. It lands on young pandemic-shaped ears; it lands on those who weren't paying attention.
Since his tragic death 11 years ago today, he's been well-remembered by many from David Lynch to BBC Music 6's Gideon Coe to less renowned but stalwart fans of every continent on earth.

I only knew Mark the last two years of his time with us. But his bearing and his uniqueness was such that you wish everyone could have known him, personally. It burned so white-hot in my bonnet that everyone should know him that when two uber fan/filmmakers from Birmingham contacted me about writing the narrative for a doc on Sparklehorse, I dropped everything--my life was never the same and it has kept Mark's memory very close to me, which has in itself been a gift.

In the 9 years we've been making and waiting for this tribute of a documentary to be released, the last few have been the most painful in the department of patience. But I can tell you today, that I have confirmation that our The Sad and Beautiful World of Sparklehorse film is on it's way to official release. The paperwork is signed. Fans of Mark who saw the first version during the 2016 festival premiers will find new interviews in the new version that we were able to land thanks to several angelic Sparklehorse fans who still keep in touch with one another to this today.

Our project is finally going to see the light of day.

Last week Toronto musician Pete Carmichael (far left in this pic) passed away suddenly. I met Pete in the mid-late 00s at CJLO - 1690AM where we had an influx of Toronto bands coming by for sessions. A lot of people recommended I get his then band, the Diableros, in for a session and everyone spoke so highly of Pete. When we corresponded over email and finally met in person, it was clear to see why everyone loved him so much. He was always so warm and kind, and I loved our chats over the years about all things that sound fuzzy.

I managed to dig up the session his old band the Diableros, one of the most underrated Canadian indie bands from that era, had recorded at CJLO way back in 2006. We'll be airing that tonight in tribute, and former Diableros drummer Phoebe Lee will be calling in to chat about Pete and their time making music together.
