Senior Advocate & Former President HCBA Mian Qayoom Arrested in Connection With Babar Qadri Murder Case

Srinagar, Jun 25 (GNS): Jammu and Kashmir Police reportedly arrested Senior advocate and former president High Court Bar Association Mian Qayoom in connection with Advocate Babar Qadri murder case.

A senior police officer confirming the arrest to GNS said that Mian Qayoom was arrested here today.

“All angles of the case are being investigated into and once we have any further detail, it will be shared accordingly,” the police officer said.

Notably, Adv Babar Qadri a resident of Zahidpora, Hawal, Srinagar was killed in a militant attack on September 24, 2020 at his residence by two people ‘who had visited him in the guise of clients.’

A case vide FIR number 62/2020 U/S 302 IPC 7/27 IAA 13/16/18/20/39 UA PA was registered at P/S Lalbazar Srinagar.

A special team was set up in August 2021 by the state police which filed charges against five suspects. The security later that year killed Abbas Sheikh, chief commander of The Resistance Front (TRF) and his deputy Saqib Manzoor – who the Jammu and Kashmir Police said was involved in the murder of Babar Qadri. Amarnath Yatra 2024: LG Visits Baltal Base Camp To Take Stock of Security Arrangements, Facilities for Pilgrims

Srinagar, Jun 25 (GNS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited Baltal Base camp in Ganderbal to take stock of security arrangements and various facilities for the pilgrims ahead of ensuing Amarnath Yatra 2024.

“Today visited Baltal Base camp of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra in Ganderbal district. Took stock of the security arrangements for the holy Yatra and various facilities including medicines, oxygen, water, food, sanitation and telecom connectivity along the route and pilgrim camp,” Sinha wrote on ‘X’ handle, as per GNS.

Notably, the annual Amarnath Yatra will begin on June 29, 2024, and will conclude on August 19, 2024. (GNS)

Major Fire At Bohri Kadal Srinagar Leaves Trail Of Destruction

2 firefighters, 5 civilians receive injuries during rescue operation

Srinagar, Jun 25 (GNS): The major fire incident at Bohri Kadal locality in summer capital has reduced property worth crores to ashes and resulted in injuries to at least seven persons including two firemen.

An official in the knowhow of things told GNS that the fire broke out at Bohri Kadal locality on Monday afternoon. "Soon after receiving information, the men and machinery were mobilised to the spot, and civilian population also joined the rescue operation," the official said, adding, "The flames only went on to rage with time."

"The rescue operation was intensified and more fire tenders and personnel roped in to douse of the flames and after several hours of persistent efforts, the fire was put out," the official said.

Detailing out the damage caused in the incident, the official said that two, three-storeyed, mosques with four shops in ground floor, upper storey of a mosque used for Quranic teaching; three commercial buildings with shops in ground and first floor: one four-storey building (Nakash) and two three-storey building (Aishah).

Besides this, the fire mishap, as per the official, substantially damaged ten residential houses having two Kiryana shops in ground floor. "Household goods, Kiryana items, hosiery, cosmetics, luggages, bedding items and other commodities were severely damaged in the incident."

"A scooty bearing registration number JK01AL 1540 and rest of all houses and commercial buildings sustained indirect damage due to water," the official said.

"Two firefighters identified as Sahil Raina and Bashir Ahmad alongside five civilians suffered injuries during the rescue operation," added the official. (GNS)

IGP Kashmir Visits Baltal, Reviews Overall Security Measures Enroute, Camping Sites & Yatra Camp Baltal.

Srinagar, June 23:(GN Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, V K Birdi today visited the Baltal main yatra camp to assess the security arrangements and reviewed various facilities in preparation for the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that IGP was accompanied by senior police and CAPF officers, the IGP undertook a comprehensive inspection aimed at ensuring a safe and smooth pilgrimage for all yatris.

During his visit, IGP V K Birdi examined the steps taken for the regulation and parking of vehicles at Baltal. He emphasized on the efficient management of all the resources to streamline the movement of yatris and vehicles. He also reviewed the measures to be put in place for implementation of the cut-off timings in order to avoid any potential risks during the pilgrimage.

Disaster management preparedness was another crucial aspect of the inspection, IGP Birdi overseeing the readiness of teams and infrastructure to handle any emergency situations effectively.

Helipad security was also assessed during the visit for heli service operations and it was stressed upon to ensure the stringent protocols to be followed to safeguard the aerial transportation of pilgrims.

While paying a visit to the JPCR at Baltal it was enjoined upon to ensure seamless coordination among all stakeholders involved in managing the affairs of SANJY-2024. Additionally, IGP reviewed access control mechanism at Domail, security bandobast along the route from Srinagar to Baltal besides various camping sites enroute and advised officers on the spot to fortify security measures and enhance safety parameters.

Following the inspections, IGP V K Birdi engaged in a constructive interaction with Police and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) officers stationed at Baltal.

Discussions centered on refining strategies to bolster security frameworks and optimize operational efficiencies, underscoring the commitment to a safe and incident-free Amarnath Yatra, reads the statement.(GNS)
