RANT WARNING !!!
Ok, recording musicians...please take note. When sending out internet blasts on FB etc, credit your engineers and producers.
Do I really need to tell you how crucial they are to getting 'your sound' ???
Many artists in my orbit do this out of respect for the decades of hard work and experience that an engineer will bring to a project. They thank and credit their eng/prod team as a part of the success of a project. But not all of them do - and they bloody well should.
Many engineers are household names...Al, Joe, Elliot, Emerick, Martin, Lipuma, Was...so many. And it seems that BECAUSE they are big names, they are credited so as to actually add value or cred to a post or project. Ok I get that...but...the cats in the trenches deserve THE SAME respect.
I recently heard a big band album that is OUTRAGEOUSLY well recorded and mixed...and no credit given. Do you all know, for example, who did all the Maria Schneider records? The Stones records? Feist? Horowitz? Gould? So many Broadway cast albums? 461 Ocean Blvd.? Or so many artists that have released in the last 20 years? Are you a Taylor Swift fan? Who tracked and mixed her records? We engineers know and recognize their sounds...just like musicians can hear three notes from Brecker or Trane or Jimi, Streisand or Pavarotti...and know.
Give it up to the tech team, you musicians...they...we...deserve it.
Rant over.
