An EXALT update - https://mailchi.mp/3fb59300cec9/an-exalt-update

Recently our Executive Director, Matt Downing, has decided to step down as director of EXALT. This means that the leadership, financial, and legal backing we have been blessed with by Matt as director will no longer exist. Through much prayer and consultation with others, I have decided that it's ti...

In truth, God is always close to those who genuinely seek after him. The real problem is that we drift away from him, lose interest, and leave his presence. So let's seek him and receive his grace and his help while we recognize that he alone is the one who truly saves.

"In the midst of a world that is full of death, mourning, crying, and pain I am reminded that my future is with God who will achieve ultimate justice and bring a complete end to suffering. I'm also reminded that Jesus himself experienced death, mourning, crying and pain, so he is able to understand the gravity of the suffering that we suffer and he groans along with us. So in the midst of our groaning and suffering It is good to be reminded of the great hope and the great future we have with our awesome God."- Chelsea May ✨

“Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The Lord has made known his salvation; he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭98:1-2‬

"I read this recently in my quiet times and was struck by the way the Psalmist is moved with such joy that he sings to the Lord. The Psalmist didn’t even know about the salvation that God would one day bring through Jesus so funnily enough we have even more to rejoice in the Lord about than he knew! God is that good so I’m encouraged to sing His praises in response."- Joshua Charles

"I recently came across this verse that really hit hard, it’s from Matthew 10:39 it says:

“Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.”

This verse is a reminder to me that I need to give absolutely everything to God and put my entire complete faith in him in all things."

"This is my favourite verse in the Bible. It has always stood out to me because it reminds me that God is working for my good in whatever situation I’m in with life. Whether good or bad, joyful or suffering God is using every situation for my good, his good and the good of his kingdom."

How often do you stop and be still? If you are anything like us, it happens very rarely, being still, unplugged from technology and social media is rare and to be honest fairly scary. When we sit still we often have to confront the things that we are feeling about ourselves and the world around us. Yet God wants us to be still and know that he is God. To just stop getting caught up in all the ‘what ifs’ and ‘maybes’ and just know that God loves us so much that he sent Jesus to die on a cross for us. When we are getting caught up with the busyness and stress of the world, we at EXALT try and remind ourselves to stop and remember how good God is and how much he loves us and that often re-centres us on what we are trying to do.

It’s so easy to get caught up in everything we need to do each day. To wake up already thinking about how the day will pan and all the things we need to accomplish. Yet, before all of this, we need to stop and remember that each day is a day that the Lord has made. Therefore, we need to rejoice that God has given us a day to enjoy. We need to walk through each day, noticing all the small moments of beauty that God didn’t have to give us to enjoy, but he did anyway. How will you be rejoicing and seeing what God has made today?

This verse sits in a passage that speaks of how the disputes between believers, often about who was right and wrong. About what days were more sacred. Paul, the writer of this letter, argues that Christ is the most important because he is the only one who is the Lord of both the living and the dead. Why? Because Jesus is the only one who has died and risen again by his power. His death and resurrection proves that he is Lord over everything, including death!

How many of us feel like singing in the morning? When we are in times of trouble and wake up first thing in the morning, the last thing we want to do is sing of God’s love and strength. In fact, it’s probably the last thing on our minds. But this verse reminds us that God is our refuge and strength in those times of trouble. That God loves us regardless of whether we are having a good time or a bad situation because of His Son Jesus.

For a day like yesterday, it is often hard to know what to say. As Christians, we believe that we are responsible for our sins and so it is right that we take time today to stop and repent of the sins that Churches in the past have committed and are still committing in regards to racism against our First Nations people. We must stop and grieve our sin, past and present and ask God for his Spirit so that we may reconcile and work for the good of all in our community regardless of their race. We must ask God for the strength to stand up and work for equal treatment and dignity of all people. Here is a prayer that you might like to use from the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ecumenical Commission.

"Almighty and loving God, you, who created ALL people in your image, lead us to seek your compassion as we listen to the stories of our past. You gave your only Son, Jesus, who died and rose again so that sins will be forgiven. We place before you the pain and anguish of dispossession of land, language, lore, culture and family kinship that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have experienced. 1We live in faith that all people will rise from the depths of despair and hopelessness. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families have endured the pain and loss of loved ones, through the separation of children from their families. We are sorry and ask God’s forgiveness. Touch the hearts of the broken, homeless and afflicted and heal their spirits. In your mercy and compassion walk with us as we continue our journey of healing to create a future that is just and equitable. Lord, you are our hope. Amen."

Paul invites and teaches us how to behave like a Christian in the book of Romans. We love to read the passages in Romans 12 because it reminded us to have that Godly standard on how to be a follower of Christ. We encourage you to read them too, it will bless you.
