Bob and Wyatt are very happy to return to Pittsburgh for PulpFest 2024, and we're bringing the heat! Well, the spice. Our illustrated talk, "The Spice Must Flow," will address the varied ways kinky and exotic pulp "spice" evolved and mutated for men's adventure magazines decades later. Artist Samson Pollen enjoyed telling how a casual snapshot of him taken in the art department at Magazine Management Co. ended up in a 1973 issue of ACTION FOR MEN, with gentle Sam unwittingly cast as two-fisted he-man "Thad Blaine" in a lone-hero-takes-on-biker-gang story! He was one hell of an illustrator, and an all-around great guy. Wish you were here to celebrate your birthday, Sam, but we'll proudly celebrate you in your absence. Thank you for entrusting us with your legacy.

“I always had all kinds of hobbies. I loved to ice skate; I used to do that quite a bit. Chess, I used to love. I actually played a rated expert and came out even with him. I was deep into computers at one time. I built my own printing press. I built everything in my studio by myself—the hardware, everything. I always had to have some kind of challenge. And I managed to squeeze it all in, some way.”
A sad anniversay today, remembering the passing of the wonderful artist and human being Samson Pollen. Wyatt and Bob count themselves fortunate to have known and worked with him; he continues to inspire us both. With love to his beloved Jackie, here is Wyatt's tribute to Sam from 2018.

My friends. Behold the full dust jacket for our latest book, ATOMIC WEREWOLVES AND MAN-EATING PLANTS. It is designed by me and features details from illustrations by Basil Gogos, Jack Davis, and an uncredited artist for SENSATION magazine, circa 1959. Now imagine purchasing the book and receiving a copy WITHOUT this majestic dust jacket wrapped around it. It couldn't happen here, you say? My friends, it could and did happen. I've urged the reader to seek justice from the online monolith they purchased it from, and now I have to wonder: Has anyone else purchased the hardcover edition of ATOMIC WEREWOLVES and received a jacketless copy?
