You have to know what YOU are all about, you have to define it and commit to it.

Great social media isn't about having the perfect logo, or the perfect backdrop to take pictures, or even posting every day of the week.

It's about your message.

Time is your most valuable resource - because you can NEVER make more or get it back, so let's say Buh-Bye to wasting it!

Now listen, I'm as guilty as everyone else (in fact I think I spent about 5 minutes trying to decide on the text color for this post), but we can all do better.

So much of what we do in our business is just busy work. Maybe it matters a teensy bit, but these things are not moving the needle in your business.

-Getting the perfect selfie won't get more clients.
-Having the perfect shade of beige won't increase your average ticket price.
-Getting your Reel timed perfectly won't increase your client's frequency of visit.

It's that time of year! A lot of us will be seeing first-time clients in the next couple of months, so how can you convert these clients into repeat customers?

Here are a few ideas for your marketing and social media to get you started!

-If you have a loyalty/rewards plan, now is the time to talk it up. It plants a seed in a potential client's mind that yours is a salon that people return to often.

-Think of what services typically require a small touchup (like a toner refresh 4 weeks after a highlight) and bundle those into one service with the touchup being complimentary (price accordingly!) and advertise that service on your social media now.

-Talk to EVERY client in your chair right now, email every client, and post on social media about your referral programs. Remind them of the perks they'll enjoy when they share your salon with their friends!

This is all part of your salon's Marketing Flywheel. When you put a little "pressure" on each of the client's touchpoints with your business, it will create massive momentum and growth for your salon!

If you put in the work in Spring '23, then Summer/Fall '23 can be one for the record books!

As a social media manager for salons, I've learned that 80% of your marketing is done by your clients through word of mouth.

Client referrals will always be the lifeblood of the salon, and that's why it's so important for you to help them spread the word even further by giving them a shorthand version of what to say when they're talking about you.

Not convinced? Check out the top 2 reasons you should be working to make sure your clients know exactly how they should be talking about your salon:

➡️Consistency: When your clients are out in the world talking about your salon, you want to make sure that they're conveying the right message and presenting a consistent message about your salon. For example, you might give them a simple tagline like "Experience the ultimate in luxury at our salon" to use when talking about your business. Taglines stick!

➡️Clarity: It's important to make sure that your marketing message is clear and easy to understand. By giving your clients a shorthand version of your message, you can simplify it and make it more accessible to everyone. For example, instead of giving them a long description of all the services your salon offers, you might just tell them to say "Get pampered from head to toe at our salon."

Your clients are busy people, and you shouldn't expect them to come up with their own marketing message for your salon!But, when you provide a shorthand version for them to use, you're making it easy for them to spread the word about your salon - in the way you want - without having to put in a lot of effort..........

Are you confused too? I can't tell you how many salon owners I've talked with recently who've said "Every salon coach/industry guru keeps saying 'Increase the perceived value', but they never actually say what to do!"

No worries, I will not leave you hanging! These are three simple things you can do to help your clients (and potential salon clients) view your services as having a HIGH perceived value.

And, at the heart of it, you just have to exceed some expectations and be vocal about how you're doing it. Here are a few of my favorites:

-Talk about what you're doing differently in the shampoo. This can be as simple as "I really like to make sure all of my clients feel relaxed" or "I'm very careful not to get your shirt soaked", etc.
-Talk about your pre-appointment routine. What do you/your team do to prepare for clients? Do you arrive early, and have a specific setup at each station? Prep certain amenities? Give them a glimpse of how the magic is made!
-Share your salon values and what's important to you as a business owner.

Here's the good news, you can start this TODAY. You should be upping your perceived value while clients are in your chair and on social media.

It's not complicated, and yeah it might feel a little awkward for some at first, but trust me - this is how you win them over!

Hey there salon pro friends🎉 Ready to take your social media game to the next level?

First, analyze your data to better understand your audience and optimize your content. Track those engagement metrics like it's hot - comments, reach, saves, and shares - to see what's working and what's not. If you need help locating this data, let me know!

But I really want to talk about the "data" that no program will track for you, and that's the information your clients are giving you when they're in the chair! Don't let it go to waste, pay attention, and track (occasionally) what your clients tell you about your social media presence.

If you really want to dive in, take advantage of the first week of each quarter to gather and analyze your social media data.

Then use that information to make adjustments to your marketing and social media strategy, so that you're only putting time and effort into things that work for your business!

With a little data-driven magic, you can level up your salon's social media, gain and keep more clients, and make more money!

Don't fret! By boosting the perceived value of your services, you can attract more customers and ensure your business thrives.

So, what exactly does increasing perceived value mean?

It's all about emphasizing the unique benefits of your salon, providing top-notch customer service, and making your clients feel valued and appreciated.

From personalized consultations to special promotions, there are so many ways to enhance the customer experience and showcase the exceptional services your salon has to offer.

The catch here is that you have to DO these things, and then make sure you're communicating it effectively to your guests and potential guests! (aka - do your social media and email marketing!!!)

Remember, a recession doesn't have to mean the end of your business! By focusing on perceived value and providing exceptional service, you can stand out in a crowded market and ensure your salon not only survives but thrives. 💪

You know how it works: "Hey guys, make sure you send me some pictures or videos of your work so I can put them on social media!"
Then, you sit down to do the work, and 🥴SHOCKER. Nobody sent you anything, frustration and overwhelm set in, and you end up putting out something you're not exactly proud of.
The solution? Give your people specifics!
▶"Macy, I see you have a balayage today, you need to send me video of you applying"
▶"Kara, I need a pic of you using a texture spray"
▶"Kathy is coming in today, please get a picture of her haircut"
When you're the social media manager for your salon, systems for acquiring and managing creative (pics + video) are critical to your sanity!

Do YOU feel like creating a social media post every day?

Yeah, me either 🤷

So, I work when I feel inspired, but that's only possible if I have the mental and creative energy available!

And having systems + processes for my social media creates a lot of freedom in my days to refuel my mental and creative energy reserves!

It also gives me the TIME to get my creative juices flowing.

For me, there is no there way! I could never rely on having the time+enery+creativity to produce good social media posts every day.

If there were ONE word most salon owners would never want associated with their salon or brand - it's "cheap". But you might be giving off that vibe if you're doing the following things:

❌When you only post pictures of hair, you don't give clients any information other than "they do good hair". Unfortunately, that's now how salon services are valued by clients. They need more information (visually) to help them determine the value of the work your salon does.

❌"Love this color!" and other captions like this create not sense of value - let alone a high value service. Think about writing captions in a way that they would be SHOCKED at the price of your servies - in a good way!

❌Blurry, fuzzy photos with cluttered backgrounds are a major turn-off for a lot of clients and cheapen the work you're presenting. Clean your lens, shoot against a plain backdrop or blur the background for better pics!
