Sometimes I lose sight of the fact that even as I have grown in my business and skill set, so have these four talented kids.

When I first decided to give this voice acting thing a shot:
Levi was 4
Jessie was 2
Jada was only 5 months old
and Alina hadn’t even been conceived.

10 years and countless studio hours later, these amazing kids are booking commercials for Disney, Meta, Five Guys, Capital One and many more!

They are represented by talent agents in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and of course Kansas City.

Some of their many career highlights include:

🔹Alina plays two characters in an episode of Cry Babies

🔹Jada is a main character at an upcoming attraction opening up in three locations Spring 2025

That glass ceiling has another crack in it!⚡️

If you watched the presidential debate last night, you might have heard my voice during the first commercial break—for this Fox News promo! 📺

As every seasoned voice actor knows, promo is notoriously difficult to get into, but even harder if you’re a woman. 💁🏻‍♀️

Yet Fox is breaking tradition and showing their support for more female voices in promo by hiring this mom of four in Missouri to reach the masses. 🗣️🎤

And to think that I never would have had a chance to audition if I hadn’t sent a LinkedIn message to a producer at Fox News waaayy back in 2015. 📥

Direct marketing has the power to connect two professionals who need each other, even in this wildly improbable scenario. 🤯

I am incredibly grateful to be chosen for this opportunity, and even more thankful that Fox sees the value in making sure America hears more women’s voices. 🔊

Ending 2023 on a high note with this sweet note from a client I've enjoyed working for since 2018 (Cristina Wiebelt-Smith you introduced us!) 💕

It's been such a fantastic year and I am truly grateful for all those who have entrusted me with their projects.

In 2023 I have grown so much as a voice talent!

Here are some of the highlights:

🔹 Was a speaker at the first-ever VOcation Conference held in Cancun

🔹 Signed with my first LA agency: DPN Talent (then promptly booked my first gig within a week!)

🔹 Hired my first talent manager Celia Siegel Management and booked the biggest campaign of my career 3 months later

🔹 Was nominated for 4 One Voice Conference awards & my son was nominated for 1 (unfortunately no wins 😕 )

🔹 Took my first promo workshop with Harry Dunn VO (then booked my first TV promo gig with DPN a month later!)

🔹 Had the best branding photography session of my life with Alison Barnes Martin Photography & got so many amazing photos

🔹 Got to be a Clubhouse guest with Emma O'Neill-Harte & Mike Tobin on the very popular show Voiceover Round Table

🔹 Was a gold sponsor & attended the first-ever National Association of Voice Actors: NAVA Gala held in LA

🔹 In my personal life, celebrated 19 years of marriage and also watched my son and his school band play at Carnegie Hall in NYC

There are so many more things I could add to this list, but suffice it to say, it has been an amazing year and I can't wait to see what 2024 has in store!

Need a good podcast to listen to over the weekend?

I just finished Episode 4 of The VO Breakfast Show (while folding laundry, obvs) and loved hearing Carin Gilfry and Jamie Muffett chat about all things related to voiceover demos!

I cringed with them as they played their very first self-produced demos and could absolutely relate to that feeling of being so proud of yourself at the time but looking back, hearing all the mistakes and pitfalls.

But through it all, I loved how honestly ans authentically these two shared about their experiences and the path their journeys have taken as they’ve grown in their careers. It takes a lot of confidence to share those beginning demos and I may have to follow suit at some point because mine is most definitely cringe-worthy also!

They bring up excellent points with humor and humility and I loved every moment of this 53-minute episode.

5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s that time of year!

I had a great time last week at Fasone & Partners Inc. annual “Toys for Toddies” event and got to say hello in person to my Talent Unlimited agent, Tracey Turner (who left before I snagged a picture with her 😢), as well as Tim & Michal from Fasone & Partners, and audio wizards Quinn & Robert Cecil at Outpost Worldwide!

We are all connected through the advertising account for 7th Street Casino in Kansas City—I have the honor of being their brand’s voice!

If you appreciate the beauty and majesty of nature, you will LOVE this new video from Crystal Mountain Resort--the footage is GORGEOUS!

On the day I had the pleasure of recording the voiceover for this video, the producer was actually staying in a remote cabin at the time. There was no question about his passion for the Great Outdoors as we talked about his vision for the final product before I hit Record.

It was easy to catch the awe and respect for the power and beauty of the mountains as he spoke, and I hope I conveyed that in telling his story.

Because to me, this isn't just a job.

This is art.

Storytelling.

Bringing someone else's vision to life.

The visuals on this video are everything, and a storyteller who doesn't care has the potential to destroy it all.

But I couldn't let that happen.

It's too beautiful to ruin.

until TODAY!

Huge thanks to Steve Juhl of Juhl Media LLC for collaborating with me to create this brand video and helping me get more comfortable getting in front of the camera.

Also special thanks to my client-turned-friend Ricky at iHeartMedia for agreeing to pop in for a cameo to showcase what a directed session with me looks like.

I know social media can be so bragadocious, so my ultimate goal for this video was to focus on how my deepest desire in my business is to SERVE my clients.

Putting their business needs first.

Treating every client like an actually person with feelings.

Trying to anticipate what I could do to make their job easier and make them look good.

That’s the point.

Well THIS is exciting!
I've been nominated for an award in my industry!

The One Voice Awards began in 2018 as an offering from Gravy For The Brain and is connected to the One Voice Conference that happens annually in both the UK and US.

This prestigious award is one for which I have been publicly nominated, not self-submitted, which is probably the greatest honor I could have already received.

I'm being nominated for the creation of my on-demand e-courses The LinkedIn Edge and The VO Edge, which have hundreds of purchasers, as well as my expertise in teaching numerous webinars for Gravy for the Brain, The Voice Actors Studio, VoiceOver Insider, and many others, as well as guest appearances on Voice Over Body Shop, Mike Lenz Voice Podcast, Atlanta Voiceover Studio, and more.
I have also had the pleasure of speaking in person and virtually at conferences like VO Atlanta, and VOcation in NYC.

Yes, this is a bit of a list, and I will be going right back to my humble existence in a quiet recording studio behind the mic momentarily, but I am so thrilled to share my joy in helping other voice actors and freelancers market their businesses with a free profile on LinkedIn.

So when this campaign for Evergy landed in my inbox earlier this year from my KC agent at Talent Unlimited, I knew I could give them the authentic sound the client was looking for.

The audition specifically described what they were looking for as "calm, confident, and kind".

I'm delighted to be chosen for this multi-spot commercial campaign, especially since the power for my own home is supplied by Evergy. Every day, I record voiceover projects from my home studio, cook my family's meals, and run endless loads of laundry and dishes (because, y'know, I've got 4 kids and a husband) without a care because of reliable energy.

“I don’t have any critiques.”

“Wow, he’s good!”

“Nice diction.”

“I think it sounds great!”

These are all comments from a repeat client who requested Levi to voice another set of commercials earlier this week.

And from a voice actor perspective (versus, y’know, his mom’s POV), he really did great at taking direction!
He listened well and applied the minor adjustments the client and engineer suggested.

And what makes it better is that he did it all on his own. I simply adjusted his mic and set gain levels and he took it from there.
Such an independent kid!

Although we really need to work on those soft skills.
I keep telling him that “yup” and “uh-huh” are not super professional words 🤷🏻‍♀️

This guy turns 13 this weekend and I couldn’t be more proud of the young man he’s becoming 🥰

This month marks 5 YEARS of working with the fabulous creative team at Realtor.com and I couldn't be more grateful!

I absolutely LOVE voicing many of the videos for the Unique Homes, Celebrity Homes, and Home Improvement series.

Over the years, I've gotten to talk about everything from ridding your home of bats, to homes once belonging to Golden Age Hollywood stars, to haunted houses!

Today, in honor of my husband and son who are both BIG Aggies fans, (and my aunt, who works there!) I'll share this latest release about a gorgeous Quonset-style home near College Station, TX.

This right here is an example of what it sounds like to talk about something that's far more complex than I can understand, without sounding like I have no idea what I'm talking about!

You know why?

Because even if I'm not an expert in particle astrophysics research, I DO have a deep understanding of sentence structure and the English language.

* Virtual high-five to all my high school/college Language Arts teachers--this was always my favorite subject in school! *

Being a voice actor also requires me to stay curious, to love learning, and to stay confident in my tone even if this is the first time I'm hearing about the topic.
