Earth Is Home Welcome to 'Earth Is Home', where I hope to share my passion and love for the natural world. Spending time outdoors even makes us smarter too!

Earth Is Home celebrates the beauty and wonder of planet Earth, and invites you to develop a deeper and richer connection with the natural world in your own life. To be alive on the planet today is to be a part of a great evolutionary and cosmic tale that begins 4.6 billion years ago with the birth of our solar system and Earth. Earth was a tumultuous heaving mass of rock and fire, hostile to life

. Yet here we are now, floating through space, on a planet of boundless beauty, part of an intricate web of life that includes billions, maybe even trillions of other species! LET'S CONNECT WITH THE WILD...
Here at Earth Is Home I will share my journey, as I seek a deeper connection with nature and explore the unfolding relationship between people and planet. Most importantly, I hope to share great content and new ideas that will inspire you to more fully enjoy the gifts of nature in your life, whether that be around your own home, at a local park, or somewhere a little more wild. HAPPY IN NATURE...
Did you know that being closer to nature makes us healthier, happier and even live longer? So I hope to share more about the science of nature connection, along with ways we can include nature in our lives for healing and wellbeing. HEALING THE PLANET...
And let's not forget the elephant in the room. Human society is responsible for a massive amount of destruction across the planet. Our presence and impact has been felt by every species and ecosystem and now we are facing a multitude of global environmental crises. Our success and domination as a species could be our biggest weakness, and lead to our ultimate downfall. So how can we chart a new course, one where people and planet thrive together? I'd like to explore how we can begin living in balance with the planet and repairing the damage we've done. Your feedback is welcome...
Let me know what you think of Earth Is Home, including any ideas you might have for other FaceBook content, or ways we can help one another to more deeply connect with nature and our planet.

An ethereal piece of art from Ann Blockley :)

I keep forgetting to post on social media! Life takes over..but I think thats a healthier way to be.Its rather too easy to become a slave to the phone screen and your life starts to feel like a kind of public performance! Its all horribly addictive so I try not to over share!

Anyway..Im sitting here enjoying a peaceful moment , scrolling through my images and found this piece I made recently when the gorse was still in full flower. I loved the way the sun shone through the dark tree, illuminating the gorse to an almost fluorescent glowing yellow.

Sleeping Blue-bum Bees! 🐝😴

Here are the SPECTACULAR Northern Blue Banded Bees (Amegilla walkeri) roosting from my video the other day! 💙

Males group together to roost at night on a small exposed stick like this. If a predator was to walk up the branch and shake it they would all disperse! 🐝

These native bees are so special and are such important warriors everyday in pollinating and keeping our eco-systems healthy! 🌼🌳

Have you ever been lucky enough to find these bees roosting in your yard? The genus can be found Australia wide with multiple species!

A small tale about a very very long tail!

Nature always finds a way to solve a problem through the intelligence of evolution. Amazing!

Why the looooooong tail? 🤔

The Long-tailed Monitor has a tail twice as long as the rest of its body and is only found in the rocky hills of the eastern Kimberley and adjacent into the Northern Territory! 🏜️🦎

It lives in and out of all the crevices of these rocky habitats that offer protection from avian predators. Feeding mainly on invertebrates, the goanna is often also chasing prey that runs into deep crevices.
If the goanna can not physically reach prey with its mouth in the crevice, it will spin its body around and put its long skinny tail into the tight space to tickle and force the insect out ... straight into its mouth! 🍽️ 🦗

The longer tails also work as a counter-balance for them walking on their rocky land. Who said lizards weren't smart? 🎓

Went a bit mad on this one haha! Good fun though, basically threw a load of techniques together in one piece. its basically a doodle in sculpture form.

Which bit is your favourite?

Thanks again for the help from Portfiled school!
