Can we talk about Ai again? (Are you tired of hearing about it yet?) Please bear with me. There is so much that I have to say.

Things are moving so fast in the Generative Ai space and I fear that I've only just scratched the surface. Images and text can create fully moving scenes + special effects. For us rigging artists and animators that's going to mean things that look like cartoons can be created by just about anyone.

But the door swings both ways!😆(can I say that here?)

By animating a simple skeletal rig, we can provide the input for generative AI to dress them with flesh and clothes and transform them into fully realized animation sequences.

I've spent the past 2 or 3 months or so planning and working on this video. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind about Ai. So I would love to hear from you if you're using some of these tools, or just curious about them.

Most of what I share is a lagging indicator of where my career is headed. Even though I worked on this project some months ago, reviewing the documentation is so refreshing. Relaunch and renewal 🤩

Ever since about 2012 I’ve operated a freelance business called Kinetic Text. Most of the projects have been explainer videos, web commercials, medical animation and the occasional music video. Earlier this year I completed a project for my local government and that has lit a fresh fire in me to bring my creative services to those in need

Most of the WIPs I share demonstrate body mechanics, but the setup for the face, emotions and lipsync are a very different animal. Unlike the limbs, the eyes and mouth cannot be puppeted so easily in AnimateCC. A series of unique art is used for most of the facial expressions and all of the mouth shapes in order to make our character talk and emote. 😆

I've been using Adobe Animate for...ever. Character animation is usually accomplished by 3 or 4 separate micro steps that have to be repeated many, many times throughout an animation project.
The latest version of AnimateCC has a feature called layer parenting which binds elements together so they can be animated logically and it is a huge improvement the animation toolset.

I started experimenting with a simpler character design for my animated presenter. I used “button” eyes instead of the fully articulated sockets, eye-whites and pupils. The level of detail is also lower, to reduce the vectors that are manipulated when posing the character (faster redraw times on the computer) and to make creation of new poses faster.🤔

In the end, I like this style as an option, but I want to explore a house style for my character designs that have more detail.🙃

The skeleton of the rig exists behind the scenes and isn’t normally shown.🧐 These images document my blueprint for the different rigs I’ve set up over time. Each version adds some innovation that allows me to get more action and emotion easier and faster.
