Continuing our weekly series, we highlight one of the paintings by Kevork Mourad on display as part of “Gandzaran! Notable Selections from Our Collection.” Kevork Mourad is one of the most successful Armenian artists in the United States, known for his own work as well as his collaborations with musicians and celebrities including Yo-Yo Ma, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and Kim Kardashian. He has taught as artist-in-residence at Brandeis University, Harvard University, and College of the Holy Cross. In his most recent work, Mourad has tested the limits of memory with large, black-and-white installations resembling architectural spaces from his youth in Syria and Armenia.

Also receiving under the radar aid is the democratic toe hold in the Caucuses region between Europe and Asia, Armenia. The centuries long held dream of Armenia to be integrated into the West’s advanced economic, democratic, cybersecurity and humanitarian systems continues to move in that direction with strengthened ties to the United States and Europe. The U.S. has provided 30 billion dollars to Armenia since the early 1990s and this April is moving more funding of over $33 million into that nation with the US State Department upgraded assessment that Armenia is of strategic importance to the Free World. The aid program is in conjunction with Congress, the State Department, USAID and the European Union.
