“The True Story of Kai” vs “The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker”
A thorough review of the new Netflix documentary about Kai with Philip Fairbanks, author of a new book that contains critical details omitted from the film.
Old Cases, New Cases, and a Request for Help
Got a lot on my plate and I honestly don't know where to start.
Gonna talk it out a bit tonight.
Philip Fairbanks Q&A
Phil and BZ talk and take questions about their work and future plans for Walking the Wire.
In part 1 of my interview with Philip Fairbanks, we go over his book "Pedogate Primer", the difficulty of working in "conspiracy theory", and how small conspiracies unfold around us every day (eg damn near all the wrongful convictions I've encountered).
Look for part 2 of this interview in a couple days. This Friday at 9pm EST Philip will be joining me for a livestream Q&A.
If you're a Patreon supporter, a PDF copy of Fairbanks book is available for you at https://www.patreon.com/bzdouglas.

Walking the Wire Episode 4 Post-Game
Follow up on stuff that came up in tonight's recording for my upcoming "Walking The Wire" podcast about David Simon's breakthrough police procedural.
Also have a lot to talk about regarding a trial I covered this week.
In my interview with Anark (https://www.youtube.com/Anark/) we open the discussion by talking about the paths that led us to adopting anarchy as our political identities. From there we swim around in some philosophical waters as we envision various facets of a modern anarchism.
Our paths to anarchism were quite similar. Both of us were first introduced to anarchists via Occupy, and fully embraced it after exploring its underpinnings and philosophy more deeply. I wear the label openly, as I find it to be the ideal political alignment for journalism.
I contacted Anark after watching his excellent video essay, "A Modern Anarchism: Part 1" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag9EcQsqP_8), which led me to taking in hours of other well-researched content he's produced.
(The video description's detailed annotations are equally impressive)

Getting to know BLM Cleveland
My interview with LaTonya Goldsby and Kareem Henton, President and Vice President of Black Lives Matter Cleveland. We discuss this local organization's history, and the important work they are doing in Cleveland and the surrounding areas to help the Black community, demand for justice for victims of police violence, and push for major policing reforms in our area.
A major topic of discussion is the potential impact of the passage of Citizens For A Safer Cleveland's Issue 24, which would establish meaningful citizen oversight of the Cleveland police through an amendment to the city charter.

Catching Up, Burning Out, and Remaining Curious
Catching Up, Burning Out, and Remaining Curious
Talking about stories I've got in the queue, dealing with burnout issue, and adopting curiosity as a permanent posture.
This is a montage of canned applause being pumped through the speakers at a Shontel Brown campaign event on July 25th. This is most trivial, obvious, and hilarious nonsense I can call out right quick, but this whole speech is as fake as the claps.
I can't say for certain that Brown's campaign instructed the DJ to do this, but she was aware it was being done.
At 1:10 She says the phrase "seven votes" over and over until the DJ plays the applause track. When he finally plays it, she actually says "Hey DJ!" very approvingly.
She does the same thing again at 1:42 with the line "bipartisan support" until she gets her canned applause.
The entire stump speech by has a lot that needs called out in it. Later this week I will be putting out a more substantive video about the many distortions, misrepresentations, omissions, and false insinuations about Nina Turner that this speech contains.

State of Injustice (Belated Podcast Announcement Recording)
This livestream will be going out as tomorrow's podcast episode. I thought I was getting good at PR for State of Injustice, then I realized I forgot to record an episode letting my own audience know.
I’m here with a very belated announcement of the release of State of Injustice, a new documentary series executive produced by Black Lives Matter Cleveland that takes an unflinching, episodic look at the systemic abuses plaguing Ohio police, one city at a time. The initial four-episode season explores police abuse in the city of Euclid, Ohio.
Go to www.stateofinjustice.com to watch the first episode right now and learn about our Indiegogo campaign. We are trying to raise funds for the post-production work necessary to complete our pilot season, the development of a comprehensive website that will serve as a supplement to the series, and to hopefully build momentum to turn this into a long-term project.
Episode one focused on the story of Luke Stewart’s killing by Officer Matthew Rhodes. The next installment pulls back to reveal the landscape of brutality that surrounded Luke’s death with the vicious arrests of Richard Hubbard III and Lamar Wright. Central throughout this episode are the voices of Black citizens whose words and pain are ignored by a belligerent police chief and an indifferent city council.
The second episode will premiere at 7pm on March 12th, the eve of the four-year anniversary of Luke's killing. Register for this event to receive links to watch the screening and participate in the Q&A: https://bit.ly/soi-e2
Following a screening of both episodes will be a panel discussion moderated by LaTonya Goldsby, co-founder of BLM Cleveland, featuring the following guests:
• Terra Stewart - Luke's sister
• Jocelyn Smith - Luke's cousin
• Ariyanna Smith - Jocelyn's daughter
• BZ Douglas - Lead Investigator, Producer
• Kareem Henton - Co-founder BLM Cleveland, Executive Producer
• Jacqueline Greene - Stewart Family Attorney with Friedman,
Protests at NPSFL Cleveland Warriors against Timothy Loehmann
[UPDATE 2/4/21 President Bill Sofranko and VP Dave Mordaski resigned from the Warriors on Thursday, and Loehmann is no longer on the team.
Now the question is, will this league lift the ban they placed on Patrick Sullivan, one of these "problematic" players, which came about because the president badmouthed him when he complained about Loehmann.]
Early this morning I covered Black Lives Matter Cleveland and New Era Cleveland protesting the Cleveland Warriors during their football practice in North Royalton, following recent revelations that the coaches quietly allowed Tamir Rice's killer, Timothy Loehmann, to join in 2018.
The Warriors are part of the National Public Safety Football League. All players must be “full-time public safety professionals” according to the league’s guidelines, and provide a signed/notarized employment verification waiver.
Loehmann hasn't been a full-time officer since 2017 (fired by Cleveland for lying on his job application, not killing a child).
I have reached out to the NPSFL Vice President Tim Kusinski for comment, and to find out if Loehmann was subjected to any verification.
Loehmann's identity was hidden from the other players on the team (using only his first name on rosters). When the black players discovered this and demanded he be removed from the team, they were kicked off instead.
